let's look at the Sabres projected lineup for the 2012-13 season with (Tyler Ennis) signed and (Bobby Ryan) not on the team (Yes i know Ennis has not signed yet)

Gerbe Hodgson Leino (Buyout Leino) Insert (Armia)

NOTES:
(1)This lineup is based on if Grigorenko makes the team.
(2)If the Sabres trade for bobby ryan I would first look at trading
Pominville, Sekera, Adam, Armia 1st round pick
(3)If the Ducks say no my second and final offer would be

Buy out Leino? The only thing worse you could do than giving him that contract in the first place is then pay him the rest of it up front without having to do the work. Plus a good % still counts against the cap.
You have to think of yourself as an employer. Yeah Leino sucked but why reward him(or anyone) but giving them 5 years pay up front for it?
