I don't want Briere back either... he still puts up the numbers that we look for in a 1C.. but he could only be that guy for us for another 2-3 years before we are right back where we started. - JVince11
except now we have two legitimate young guys that COULD develop into #1 guys in hodgson & grigorenko
and if one of them doesnt,
we still have enough young center depth to have at least three "#2s"
our biggest problem with losing Briere & Drury wasnt that roy didnt turn into a #1...
it was that connolly couldn't stay healthy & we had no one else to give us any kind of depth down the middle
we have that now... TONS of it...
we have SIX possible #2s... seven if you consider adam might still get a look at center & not permanently moved to wing (catenacci & sundher are decent prospects too... catenacci = roy, with some grit) |

A note: i'm sorry I had to ban a few of you. i really don't like doing it, but i've said too many times this isn't a girly thread, i even pulled some strings (pun intended) to HAVE THERE BE A GIRLY THREAD OTHER MODS DON'T MESS WITH for you all to do your thing.
Please don't go down this road again. - nfph

I'm with you... I still believe that between Stasnty, Ryan, or a mystery 3rd person will end up being a Sabre before camp begins..
I mention the mystery because we take the obvious.. but Darcy pulls stuff from his a$$ all the time that was not seen coming..
I think with the plethora of D-men that we have in addition to there being at least 9 teams who have said they are actively looking for a d-man (Anaheim, Colorado, Detroit, EDM, Minny, NSH, STL, Philly, and Montreal) we will make a deal. - JVince11
we've both mentioned stewart
i also like helm from detroit, but he's a bottom6 guy
not sure philly or montreal would trade with us, or us w them?
one of nashville's young guys could be a target... wilson maybe?
not too sure about minnesota...
leopold for hemsky or gagner could happen with each side adding a piece or two... or maybe horcoff?
there certainly are some possibilities
i think we are in a holding pattern to see if (by some miracle) we get doan or can work out a ryan deal...
once those (unlikely imo) options are exausted,
then i think we'll see the typical "where the hell did that come from?" darcy trade |

We need to give Hodge a full year before we can call him anything.. I agree that Grigorenko has the potential to be a 1C.. but we don't have anything that is proven.
Ennis is the most proven center we have right now if you ask me..

I don't want any of those guys from EDM... not a single one..
Minny would be a hard trading partner too.. but I wouldn't be upset at a Sekera for Setoguchi type trade..
I would love to get Stewart from STL.. he adds more grit to this team and can pot 25+ goals.
Ryan is the same as Stewart but much better.. two way player.. but I think Ryan's 30/30 is his ceiling.. he plays with getz and perry and those are his stats.. he won't play with better linemates in his career.
I still think Nick Foligno is a possibility for some reason...
I could see us doing a trade with NSH for Colin Wilson because he has really fallen into Trotz dog house even though he puts up decent stats. He plays both Winger and center too.

thats why right now .... the team as is:
It will either work out GREAT with Hodgson, Ennis, grigs playing up to there potential (grigs i only expect 45 -50 points his rookie year)
or i can see it as being a BIG miss! and the sabres being a bottom 5 year in the league. |

we don't have anything that's PROVEN,
so i do understand ppl that want a "#1" here...
i just dont think ANY of the guys we talk about bringing in are atually "1s"
and i doubt all 6-7 of our young centers turn into 2nd liners (or better),
but do i think at least 3 of them will?
i really do...
i actually think that ennis, hodgson & grigorenko are all AT LEAST "#2s"
i think adam could be a 20 goal scorer (prob at wing)
and girgensons is at least a "#3" with potential to be much more
catenacci & sundher are big ?s... but both have looked good so far...
a good buddy of mine has rochester season tix,
so i'm looking forward to hearing his opinions on them throughout the season
at any rate,
we are in a far better situation now bc we have the depth of talent that we just didnt have when we lost briere & drury |

Why do you keep saying Ryans ceiling is 30/30 because he plays with Getzlaf and Perry?
Youve beend told by people who watch Anaheim games that he is bounced around from line 1-3 |

So where is the girly thread....
The real question being - do we stand pat with what we have? because it seems like we dont have enough to get the "pieces" we want via trade, and FA dont seem interested in hockey heaven. Do we have to wait for the kids to grow into players? |

no one thought vancouver would trade hodgson,
or that we'd trade kassian
or that ehrhoff would sign here
or that regehr would waive his NTC to come here
or that we'd drat TWO of the top4 centers available in the draft this year
you can be a crabby pessimist all you want,
i think moves still COULD be made
but darcy isnt going to do something stupid either (likw vanek +++ for ryan)...
so it might not
but i believe he's trying to make a REASONABLE deal - jdfitz77
Darcy hasn't done anything of significance this late in the summer since acquiring Lydman in August of 2005.
I'm guessing he tried to make a bigger move earlier and could only put together the Ott deal.
Ryan & Briere and players of that caliber won't be coming here because Darcy refuses to part with the types of assets necessary to pry those players from their teams.
