That is also not mentioning Girgensons or Grigorenko making the team..
- JVince11

I honestly don't see where there'll be room for these kids. I'd love to see it, but (keeping the top 6 Van, CoHo, Pommer, Tennis, Foligno and Staff) the bottom 6 guys will be Leino, Ott, Kaleta, Tropp, McMuscle, Gerbe, Scott, Adam and Ellis all fighting for 6 spots.

I suppose Adam and Tropp could be sent to Rochester w/out clearing waivers.

Leopold and Adam or a pick to Philly for Briere.

First off, Hodgsons' production rate with the Sabres is only 2 points off of what he paced with Vancouver, and even though the stat does not do much to help my later argument, I would like to point out how stupid it is that writers act as if he had a huge drop-off with the Sabres. This isn't the first time I have seen this, others have said the same. It simply isn't a large enough sample, and even so, it is 2 points off of his production rate with Vancouver, which while integrating into a new system, is not bad.

I will be disappointed if Hodgson scores less than 60 points this upcoming system, which, despite what others have opined, is what you expect at minimum from a top line center. Hodgson scored 41 points last year in 83 games averaging 13+ minutes a game. Derek Roy averaged 19+ minutes of ice time last year. If Hodgson gets more ice time, it is reasonable to expect his production to increase at close to the same rate as his ice time increases. So if Hodgson gets 6 more minutes of ice time(like Roy did last year even while playing injured), it would equate to about a 40% increase in ice time and the correlation of his stats would be around 16 - 20 more points.

Along with his increased ice time, I expect that Hodgson will benefit from playing with better linemates. I also think that he will mature both physically and mentally which will help. He is training with one of the best in the game, and his injury that hampered him earlier in his career is no longer an issue. Everything points to a breakout season for this guy. I am really excited to see it.

If he does prove that he can be that #1 guy, suddenly the Sabres will have more centers than they know what to do with. Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, Girgenson and maybe Luke Adam could all be competing for those top two line spots. We will no longer be looking for centers, that's for sure.

Think of the lines in 3 years:

Ennis Grigorenko Stafford
Leino Hodgson Armia
Foligno Girgensons Tropp
??? Adam Kaleta

Assuming we don't sign any UFA's and retain all RFA's this is who would be under contract. Imagine if we keep Vanek and Pominville, what an awesome group of forwards we would have in 3 years.

What are you basing this off of?

Im just trying to project a comparison. Krejci is a smaller non physical 2 way center. Thats what i believe Hodgson will be

We would melt faces off with that lineup.
My expectations for CoHo are based on where he plays.
I honestly want to know what the lines are FROM RUFF if the season started today.
It probably wouldn't mater though, because they would change 9 minutes in to the game.

Not a Huge fan of Hodgson I have some serious doubt about him. I personnaly think it was a mistake trading Kassian for a small centerman when we already had one in ennis (who is way more talented). I think one of them becomes expendable at some point. I would say Hodgson turns into the next David Krejci. Not that thats a bad thing

Haha did I say that? Crosby and Giroux are elite talents BTW. Let me re phrase.. Hodgson is a smaller center. Not exactly ideal for #1 status thats all I meant

Hodgson will score more goals this year than...
getzlaf
stastny
thornton

25-40-65pts

this kid is going to be good...
with increased icetime, power play time, and likely playing with vanek & pominville...
plus another offseason training with roberts & time to legitimately learn Ruff's system...

i can't wait

next offseason our big point of discussion will be,
"where are we going to play all these centers we have?"

BOTH guys we drafted will prob be ready

Adam will prob be a winger, but he could also win the 3rd line center job this year & play well enough to consider keeping him there

and don't forget catenacci & sundher

i know we don't have a "#1" right now,
but all these guys have top6 potential...

and hodgson & grigorenko have #1 potential

not a center, but i also can't wait for armia... he's gonna be a stud too

darcy has done an incredible job in the draft since the lockout

Agreed. I'm more psyched for the future....3 years from now? It's not going to matter if some guys pan out because some of them HAVE to.
I kind of feel like the next 2 or so years are going to require some luck. We might have a good team or we might have an OK team with a bunch of band-aids covering up all the holes for players that either didn't pan out or that Golisano wouldn't pay for.

agree
as far as the future goes...
i REALLY like how it looks except for ONE thing
we have no plan IMO for a successor to miller
we do have 3 goalies that should all be DECENT,
but no one with top10 in the league potential...
i really wanted us to go after one of the top3 guys in the draft this year
we'll have to see what happens

Hodgson has not done anything to prove that he will be anything more than a third line player. There is a reason his ice time was so low with Vancouver. He couldn't earn the trust of the coach or his fellow players to play in key situations. He is too slow and not physical enough to play top minutes. It looks like he will probably be a 40 point player not a 60 point player. If he can stay healthy.

He's already a 40 point player.

Unless he's peaked, which is highly unlikely considering his age, that's an unrealistic prediction. I smell sour grapes.

I'd say 45-55 this season, if he's given solid linemates, pp time, and more minutes than he got with the Canucks. He'll continue to improve.

2 Reasons, actually.
1. Sedin
2. Kessler
I don't see either of those 2 names on the Sabres roster.
What else ya got?

If you read the post you would see a few more accurate reasons actually
1. He is not a strong enough skater
2. He avoids physical play
3. He is not good enough in the face off circle
4. He did not gain the trust of the coach to play in key situations

How is that?

If he was ready to be a top six forward he would have played on the second line either as center for Kesler or wing. The opportunity was there and he could not seize it.

If he is your number one center you have serious problems unless he made huge improvements to his game over the summer.

I would like to see him succeed but to expect him to be your saviour is completely unrealistic.
