Are you kidding me? Shea Weber tried like hell to get out of there. His goals were $$ first, Philly second, and Nashville last. Any recharacterization of that I simply don't believe.

Nashville is great. You win. But they will never sign any big time F.A.'s in that sewer of a town. Reality my suck, but I will simply state the truth. That franchise is f'ing dead.

I think the conversation starts/ends here. He wanted to cash in before a new CBA potentially limits $'s/term of a contract, and Philly is one of a couple of organizations (see also Rangers, maybe a few others) who can/will throw the kind of money out there that was offered to Weber. If he were trying to escape a "sewer of a town", I doubt Philly would be his destination.

You have obviously never been to Nashville. Philadelphia is the sewer in comparison when you compare crime, poverty, pollution, and people's attitude. Throw in no state income tax, nightlife, and way more hot women and Nashville kills Philly.

The Preds problem is lack of corporate support and a poor business model. Corporate support can only be increased so far but it is improving a businesses migrate south. The poor business model is on management. Defensive hockey might make you competitive but offense sells. Drafting dmen and goalies high in the draft plus playing a defense first system does not sell the game. A lot of these struggling franchises play boring hockey. What new fans want to see 1-0 games. Look at what run and gun did for Washington's fan base. That market stunk until Ovechkin arrived.

We may have elected John Street (garbage thug), but you put in Marion Barry. Smoke on that.

My guess is you've never been to Nashville. One of the funnest cities I've ever been to and I travel alot. If Nashville is a 'sewer of a town' I shudder to think of what Philly is.

I've actually never been to Philly, or Pittsburgh for that matter. But neither have any bearing on the fact that Nashville is a wicked place. And the women, oh the women...

Philly/Pit home and home in the next 2 years is my plan though.

i've been to nashville several times. you are right, its a nice ,clean city but it is no way in the same league as philadelphia.

philly has more history, more ethnic neghborhoods, way better restaurant scene, better bars and clubs, better beer , and its a better location (easy enough to get to new york, dc, beaches, mountains, etc)

This conversation is crazy. No one wants to play there. They can draft talent, that will eventually leave. They won't get any free agents. The franchise is doomed. Who gives a crap anyway? You can go down there and enjoy their nightlife and dance with Elvis and swim in lakes but their franchise still sucks. Everyone is kidding themselves otherwise.

Does anyone really think the franchise's best years are ahead? Show of hands please.

Does anyone think they are a complete idiot? Show of hands please.

Please note that question 1 and 2 are completely unrelated. Since no one here is an idiot, no one should answer yes to Q2. No implication that the two are correlated. Zero. None.

You might want to check out the history of the Pittsburgh Penguins right before Sidney Crosby. They were headed to be the Kansas City Penguins. Now they are one of the biggest draws in the league.

Being that my time machine is broken, I will say it could be. Maybe they stink so bad this year they get Nathan Mackinnon, or Connot McDavid in to two years. one player can change the course of a franchise for a decade as Crosby and Ovechkin did.
