it's a tough market, no doubt...

wild owner craig leipold bolted the franchise for minny presumably because of that...

they showed a big commitment to rinne and to weber and seem commited to building a winner...

cost be damned

I hope they stay in Nashville, myself. The fans are passionate and support the team. It's not a place where they get 10,000 people a night and don;t sell out playoff games

Where did I (frank)ing say that you or anyone else couldn't discuss what you want to discuss? I just wondered why people discuss the specifics when they aren't known. If you have a problem with that, too bad!

There is specualation of their financial struggles. But I'm not personally going to question how millionaire business men run their finances, as a working stiff who has to go to work everyday to earn a paycheck just to get by.

Maybe we all take a pause. Deep breathe. Mmmm, that's better.

I view Nashville (the Franchise) as a team with 2 good players and the rest is crap. They will never win a S.C. in the next 5 - 10 years.

They remind me a good bit of Buffalo - they can only draw talent from Europeans that aren't aware they will be playing in sh!- cities. Any American or Canadian rarely chooses these crap holes as lifetime destinations. For that reason, they will suffer, and suffer for a long while.

why would you worry about another teams' finances?

unless it's nashville's and your still ticked that they matched

- b0s0o1

Well to be honest.. I was one of the people (in a pretty large group mind you) that was completely fine with him being matched... 5 days before he was matched. It was a no lose for the Flyers... either you get him (which would have been fantastic no doubt) or you prevent the Rags and Pens from getting him.

Honestly.. not bitter at all.

I couldnt disagree any more vehemently. Nashville is a beautiful city. They have one of the best nightlifes and scenes in all of the cities I have visited. The problem is they are a small market team, in a non-traditional market. They have actually done a decent job, and have created a pretty loyal (albeit smaller) fan base. The games (from what I have heard) are very exciting, and the fans knowledgeable.

They draft very well. Very, very well. The bigger problem is that they struggle to retain guys (obviously up until recently) because of monetary reasons. Look at a list of some of the names of guys who have played there, and chose TO play there.

Weber, Arnott, Fisher, Gaustad, Hal Gill... On top of that, have you ever heard a player bad mouth the org, or the city? Nope.

No will they win a cup in the next 5-10 years? No clue, and anything can happen.. but my gut would say no.

Also, as for the bold... did you forget Shea Weber?

This place is in need of a new thread. I guess Mezy threw a wrench in whatever Bill had originally planned to write about today and he had to start from scratch.

`When are the rangers getting a new hockey blog so i can have an intelligent hockey conversation?

Sure beats crying about weber and discussing red neck financing.

And lets face it... coming off of their most successful season ever, losing out on one of their franchise d-men, and not really doing much of anything to improve the team this offseason.. well... really doesnt bode well for them.

Its a shame because Nashville really had an out from cash strapping themselves with Weber, and a way to really turn their franchise in the right direction.. but they puffed their collective chests out...

A little more of my old mans teachings... *When your pride gets bruised you make rash decisions. There's nothing worse than a rash decision... well besides getting punched in the face. Then again rash decisions often times lead to a punch in the face.

- jak521

This is such an arrogant "Yankee-esque" attitude. Nashville should allow us to take their best player and we'll give them what we want to give them in return. How would losing two of your best three players (Weber/Suter) turn that franchise in the right direction ? To me, it tells your fanbase that it isn't worthwhile to support this team because any star players that you develop will soon be on the way out of town.

Are you kidding me? Shea Weber tried like hell to get out of there. His goals were $$ first, Philly second, and Nashville last. Any recharacterization of that I simply don't believe.

Nashville is great. You win. But they will never sign any big time F.A.'s in that sewer of a town. Reality my suck, but I will simply state the truth. That franchise is f'ing dead.
