Maybe rebuild is the wrong term... Retool. The Flyers lost Carle, Jagr, Bobrovsky, and now Meszaros. We traded JVR for Schenn which was a lateral move IMO... You really cant say this team is better then last years, and the Rangers have only gotten better, and the Penguins have 2 of the top players in the league and 1 defenseman that is near the top....

I can easily see us making the playoffs as a low seed, or missing them all together. Even if we do make the playoffs, to go through NYR, Pitt, Boston.... I dont know man....

I think I would rather protect the core of the team, and see if I can get assets for our soon to be departed vets like Hartnell and Timonen.. Maybe you can even move Briere to give Schenn and Couts time at center (though its not likely). Then use the picks/prospects to restock the minors and keep the youth movement going while targeting UFA's next off-season to replace what we lost this year....

Though I could be overeacting, its just how I feel right now.

How is trading an often injured player for a young defensemen with tons of upside a lateral move

Sad times in Philadelphia right now. I expect the team to rally around coach Reid this season. They have the talent to go far.

For your sake hopefully better than the way GB rallied around their OC when his kid was found at the bottom of a Lake on the eve of the playoffs.

As of now, I see the US WJC pairings work out as follows: Reilly-Jones, Skjei-Trouba, Gostisbehere-Murphy. Welinski as the extra.

Can we try to get the nickname Ghostface Killah going?

Please explain how JvR is an oft injured player. Prior to this year he was a healthy player. If Schenn has a shoulder injury this season and misses extensive time.. would he also be considered just an oft injured player?

JvR is already a top 6 winger in the NHL. He himself also has "tons of upside", in fact, the type that is harder to find. AT BEST Schenn projected to be a very good shut down d-man who could chip in a little offensively.

At best JvR is projected to be a top line dominating Winger.

I think both fall a bit short of their marks in the end, but clearly as of right now the Leafs got the better player.

As sick as this might sound... this happening might be the biggest blessing for the team.

No.

It was suggested by some on this board sometime ago to use this avatar as a-play on his name and he rolled with it.

Look at the amount of games he played last year. Toronto has to hope he can get and stay healthy or it was a terrible trade.

No worries. They have an elite goaltender.
- bradleyc4

quick question, how would they have fared by rolling Bobrovsky/Boucher again last year? I think 7th or 8th seed.

Ok.. you can pick out plenty of players and look at the amount of games they played in a season and say they are injury plagued..

Look at Jordan Staal. Do you think he is an injury prone player?

JVR will probably play all 82 games, and Schenn will get injured. Why expect anything else.

The game of football is exactly that "a game". The death of a love one will forever be carried around until you die yourself. Coach Reid will never forget about his son but football can help heal his process with living with it.

People hate the contract not the player, yet let it manifest as if they dislike the player... If it was a 4-6 year deal people would be happy. thats what I find comical. We have a legit #1 goalie for the first time in like a (frank)ing decade and now people would prefer that we had that rotating door of back-ups.

That #1 goalie is going to have to perform at a great level this year. The defense (forwards included) will have to step up this season.

If he plays the way he did from January on, we will have no problem.

If we didn't get him and he had the same season with Phoenix as he did here, people would have been calling for Homer's head with boucher showing why he's a career backup and Bobrovsky proving that he's a backup with years of work at best before he can be a starter.

I said before that Watson told me Pronger was going to attempt a comeback this year. Whether it was wishful thinking or a sign that he's not as bad as previously thought, I'm not sure. All I know is he's a warrior and if he can play he will. That being said, I'm not going to hold my breath. There's a big difference between attempting a comeback and actually accomplishing it.

I wonder what they will do now with Mez sidelined. They have to wonder whether or not he's going to be able to be the impact player we were hopin for after back and Achilles surgery. That will put him off the ice for almost if not an entire year if you exclude the one playoff game he played in.

I hope your right.... But something inside me says he is done. I Like Chris alot more then anyone else on the Flyers. He is the leader and a hammer. I hope to god your right!!

Historically, haven't his first half's been average to mediocre with him catching his stride in January?
