Zero. Refs sucked both ways, Canada just wasn't good enough to finish it.
- eichiefs9

Horsepoop. US had the tying goal penalty kick handed to them.

Did Canada get any phantom penalties (shots, not free kicks) handed to them? I am honestly not sure, just asking.
- Mr_Clean

There were no phantom PK's for the US either. The series of events you're referring to are both within FIFA rules. Sh!tty way to lose, but the refs hardly had the fix on.

also missed a hand ball in our box, had a corner gifted to them on an out that was clearly against the US. I cant recall having ever seen that 6 second rule called in well..pretty much any game ever, and even the brit announcers were mystified at the hand ball called against Canada on the ensuing free kick. Call it what you like, but the reffing was crap.

Whatever, this is far from the consensus view. That penalty kick wouldn't have been called as such 9 times out of 10 in Premier League or any major men's soccer championship, maybe the women are held to a higher standard.

I never said the refs did a good job, in fact I agree that they sucked, on the whole. Both ways.

The corner call you're referring to was crap, but it didn't affect the outcome at all.

They absolutely stuck to the letter of the law a little tightly on the 6-second call, but they were still completely within their rights to make it.

I see no issue with the handball. She turns her body, bends her elbow and leaves her arm in an unnatural position when the ball hits it. Falls well within the defined rules of what is a handball.

Yea but we cant really blame Dee.

Snow and Wang havent exactly given us much fodder for conversation this Summer. We can continue to beat the Viz story to death or rehash over Garths 3 huge signings. Or we can continue to beat the hell out of each other.

This blog definitely tops another story about Ricky "D"!

I'm sure Kasper will concur.

But then again. xXx may have something to say about that!

- SCLI

Yeah I can. Write something about one of the many fantastic prospects we have. How about Reinhart who just signed? Why (frank)ing Rob Schremp? I can blame her

It just sucks that what was a great game is now called into question about a bunch of things. I was actually shouting at my TV and cheering like a maniac about a womens soccer game. It felt weird, and to see it end like that sucked.

removable seats...problem solved. next

- LetsGoIsles

And how are you going to remove the concrete beneath those seats?

And then how are you going to raise the arena floor since you have removed about 12-16 rows of flooring?

While I (obviously) watch men's soccer far more frequently, I love the women's game as much, or more. I've seldom seen the women flop and try to fake injuries just to pop back up and keep playing like nothing happened. I always enjoy the Women's WC and Olympics as much as anything.

I can see why Canadians are upset, I'd admittedly probably feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot. I just think that the calls were within the rules. Tight, but within the rules. It does suck that there will always be a black cloud hanging over such an unreal game.

Hand ball was a hand ball. Could have been two hand balls, actually.

6 second rule was a terrible call, but have you ever seen an international soccer match that didn't have a terrible call?

Bottom line is this: the first US goal was an embarrassment - you wouldn't give that goal up in a high school game. Protect the post - it's the first rule - even I know that, I didn't play soccer.

To kill a snake, you have to cut off its head. Canada didn't do that.

I'm 100% proud of them. But they didn't win the game.

Congrats to the US - the best women's soccer team on the planet.

Gotta disagree here wedge. Canada had the game within their grasp despite an admittedly awful first goal (I was also screaming about the post being so open) and a bad call essentially derailed it for them. My opinion, that call doesn't get made they quite possibly win that game and shock everyone.

there could have indeed been two hand balls: one happened in Canadas box and didn't get called.

I'll stop now. Its over. our girls were monstrous today and Ive never been prouder of them. Like I said, it was brutal for such a great game to end like that. Of course, chances are the US wins in penalties anyways, and the objective part of me knows that the sheer amount of corners they gave up were bound to come back and haunt them. I just wish it would have been a clean loss.

Im done. Schremp sucks. Always has. Most overhyped and overrated Oiler draft pick in history. I fought with my fellow faithful about him for years as much as I've fought with them about how worthless Omark is. Some people buy into the Orange and Blue hype machine wayyy too much.

They played phenomenal, Sinclair was an absolute beast. We absolutely got lucky, if just one of the sh!tty first goal or the handball didn't happen, there is a good chance that we wouldn't have won.
