Missed that lol. How much he sign for? All I'm saying is you can get leadership for a lot cheaper.
Shane Doan 7m? - Smittyx36
1.5mill
and yeah but i wouldnt bring in someone just for leadership that isnt going to also help the team
arnott has slowed down alot IMO, he had a decent season last year but his 2nd stint with the devils it was almost like watching him with iron feet, just couldnt move like he used to
i wouldnt bring someone in just to bring someone in, camp invite if he gets that far, see how girgs or grigs does in camp and see if they could make the team, and bring in youth to fill a spot |

That's quite the premium to play for leadership without very substantial production, for Doan.
I'm sure there are many guys who are great in the room and "leaders" in their own regard who aren't very productive... I doubt you'd give them 3 million more than they are worth just for those intangibles. - Mr_Clean
Again, the market dictates the price, With little suply the $ goes up. This economic truism does not apply to every other market in the world except for hockey. Whatever Doan signs for will be his value in this summers market. Whether or not you think he is overpaid has nothing to do with that.
Drug dealers love when they are the only dealers in town, because they have what their customers want, and with no alternative, no competition, they can control the price. And even though the customer knows he is being charged more than usual, they have no alternative, and if they want it, they will pay.

theyd have to pay some crazy overpriced FA to the worst contracts in the nhl to hit the floor via FA
well i guess huselius (sp) 4-5mill
+sykora? 3mill - dmarsden2988
Still think for Sykora its NJ/Europe or retire. I see Huselius ending up in NJ as well.
If Doan does leave, then they will have trouble. Hello Wade Redden or Scott Gomez? |

yea i know lou says he is interested in bringing sykora back and sykora said he wants to stay here (his family lived here even when he played in europe) but if he gets a big deal then he may go elsewhere, i doubt nj would offer more than 1.5 for him
i know huselius hasnt been cleared yet, but i dont see him signing in nj
yotes have 22 players signed for 44 and change, cap floor is 52 so 7+mill (its 44+change) so mtl may get gomez out of their hands

I agree 100%. I personally don't think the Sabres need leadership that much. I mean yea we are a young team but we still have the vets..
I just cant take the Doan talk like he is gonna be the savior of any team he goes to. The guy isn't even a top 40 skater IMHO. |

Thing I dont get it why Skora hasnt already resigned there if he wants to. He seemed like a perfect fit, but FA's that make it to this point usually end up going to a different team. He's still good for 40P, and NJ needs as much FW as possible.
As for Huselius, I think he will be a player that signs close to training camp, so teams know where he's at health wise. Too bad that he's a bandaid, cause when he's healthy hes a solid 2nd line winger.
And i know, thats nuts.
All I know is that I want stuff to start happening. This has been the worst offseason ever. |

he can help a team as a complementary play, not one of their top players, thats about it, nothing more nothing less
he wont win you a series but he wont lose you one |

Garth is to Doan as EK was to Forsberg......
IMO - F Doan. This team needs a #1 centre - Ghost of Bill B

i think the devils will wait till the beginning of camp, i have a feeling they will make a trade, nothing major but just seems like they are looking at the trade market before going back to sykora
teams cant sign huselius till he passes and is medically cleared, which i heard he hasnt been cleared so it maybe a midseason pick up with him, who knows depends on his health
things may pick up after the CBA such as buyouts, but other then that i dont see anything major |

Honestly I've had it with Doan. Stay in Phoenix or Quebec or wherever they end up. A loyal guy who doesn't really care about winning a cup is sort of refreshing. With that said I do not want him even close to my team, winning is second or third on his list. |

Garth you are getting a little out of hand now. He is going to give the Yotes to the very last minute. Get the (frank) over it already. You sound worse than my new born niece bro. I like how you keep throwing in the buffalo is one of the few teams he could sign with only because your GM says theyre interested. He hasnt even visited for the possibility of getting wooed, and wined and dined by rich owner Pegula. Your only blogs are about Doan. You try and throw some other useless crap in there. |

Just because he is the best free agent left doesnt mean his value is now 7mil. That is just stupid to say. Players values are still compared to theyre peers. Under no circumstance is Doan worth 7mil. He is barley worth 5mil. |

7 mil? Heck I heard on 55 a team has a 5 yr for 8 mil on the table. If that's the case LET HIM WALK!!! 4 for 7 is nuts, 5 for 8 is throwing your money away |

I get what you meant to say, but seriously...
The guy will likely end up signing for five years and 48 million per year. - Garth
Is that even allowed (rhetorical)?
I have my doubts that anyone signs Doan to 5 years and almost $50 million. |

For the love of anything you might deem holy Garth, stop with the Doan obsession. STOP! If you have nothing interesting re the Sabres or NHL, it's probably best you just wait to draft your next blog when you do.
I'm not sure if there are laws around internet restraining orders but you'd be giving good ammunition to a law maker that wanted to draft one. |
