I hope Regier isn't done but my better judgement tells me he is. - mhp
I just dont see how they can throw out 200 million in offers for Parise/Suter, miss out, and then just trade Roy and call it a day. I think they're trying to get something done. Like I said before, theyre all taking their vacations, and leaving us twisting in the wind. |

how does a team with
How does a team with a free willing budget not address its biggest need center in 5 years and trade its only center thats played a season at position. The problem with the sabres is not toughness, It has no centers. - hafgod
How many centers of the caliber you are talking about have been acquired in a trade in the past 5 years? Centers are like quarterbacks. If they're top caliber, teams just don't trade them, unless you are in cap hell (like when the Chargers had Brees and Philip Rivers). You can say they didn't draft any, but I can't think of any the Sabres passed on that would be NHL ready and make that sort of impact that we are looking for right now.
I don't like defending Regier here, but people act like he's got a "center tree" that he just refuses to pick from. That's not the case.

I still wonder how they would have been under the cap if both of those guys signed here |

finley signed with rochester last year though - homiedclown
On September 18, 2011, Finley accepted an invitation to training camp by the Buffalo Sabres. He impressed enough that he was signed to an AHL contract, and assigned to the Rochester Americans.[2] Through the first quarter of the season, Finley was impressive as one half of the Americans shut-down defensive pairing. He led the Amerks in +/- with a +10. The Sabres and Finley reached a three-year contract on November 28, 2011, that will allow Finley to be called up by Sabres organization.[3]

I don't think they planned on both of them taking the deal. I think the strategy was offer to both, and whoever would have agreed to it would have been a great acquisition. |

wellwood would have been a nice insurance policy
when mair is your second line center in late november, you need to over pay and get one
5 years was 4 years too many IMO |

wasted their time on Doan, can't make a deal for Ryan. I just can't see them doing much till camp, hope I'm wrong. |

Wellwood would have been just as big of a whipping boy as anyone that came through here. He's borderline 2nd line caliber if you feel like being nice. He doesn't make you that much better, and doesn't turn you into a contender. He is still a major dropoff from the impact that Briere and Drury left. There's a reason he's been bounced around Canada. If you're going to overpay, you better be getting something better than Kyle Wellwood. |

I get the feeling that the "Ryan wants out" hype is a tad overblown, or at least something that can be ironed out with a sit-down. If I were to bet, I'd wager that he stays in Anaheim, at least at the beginning of the season. |

And anything other than a #1 center doesn't make them materially better in any of those 5 seasons. |

he's going to play in the OHL this year ( i think we will sign him next summer )
with all the new centers he would have to play wing I don't see any room for him

we will disagree
I can't believe this team wouldn't be better off with a legit 3rd line center then mair, boyes, leino, moore (with a busted hand) macarther experiment at center, or any other poor option based on the lack of center depth in the organization
it would be different if he drafted a few after he decided to move on w/o briere and drury, but he took d men |
