sure. 6.5 million for 50 points with superior talent around him. And you guys complain about Vanek! hahahah. Briere may be clutch in the playoffs but you have to make it there first. - RynoBull
Leino and Hartnell? Schenn and Simmonds? Hardly superior talent. It's not like he's playing w/ Giroux. This year he was beat up quite a bit too.
I've never once complained about Vanek, so I don't know where you lump me in with the Vanek-haters. Vanek's production is fine, he's a tough SOB, and he'll play through pain every time. I will never b!tch about him. And if you're implying that Vanek's contract doesn't match the production, this has (YAWN) been talked about ad nauseum. Of the 700 players that play in the NHL, the % of players that don't "earn" their contracts outweighs the % of players that do, if you're solely basing things around production. At this point, who gives a crap what he makes? It's moot. He has two years left on his contract, and has averaged 33 goals a year for his career. If you can move him for a younger, cheaper version of him, I'm for it, but I like what he brings to the table.
As far as Briere goes? He had an off year last year. He's 35, but he's not an "old" 35, and he has gas left in the tank, and I believe he is going to bounce back strong. What better place to do it in than Buffalo. And I don't think playing with guys like Vanek or Pominville can be considered inferior talent, compared to who he'd be playing with in Philly. Perhaps only one guy in Philly's forward group (Giroux) is superior overall.
And as far as the playoffs, this is a playoff team, and would be more so with a guy like Danny Briere. - Powerslave
My intent was to compare the production of Briere and Vanek based on their contract. People whine about Vanek now, I can't imagine how they would react to a 40/50 point season from a guy making more money.
35 is 35. Briere's production has degraded his since 06/07. If this past year was a down year we could only expect maybe 10 more points out of him.
Is he great in the playoffs? yes! Are the Sabres a playoff team? Maybe. I don't think an older version of Danny is the solution to getting into the playoffs. Sabre Nation better hope that either one of the Gs turn into Stamkos.
These Sabres twitter rumors are so stupid. Regier is very secretive and all these rumors are BS. - kritter65
100% agree. Rumors are fun to talk about but for anyone to believe the Sabres rumors, given how Darcy and the team operate is ridiculous. Where were these rumors about Roy going to Dallas? I didn't hear anything of it until it went down.
I'd trade Sekera and Brennan for Briere. It would be a salary dump for Philly with a chance a having a good defenseman or two show up. Other than that I think the price for Bobby Ryan will ultimately be too high for the Sabres blood. Also Doan isn't coming here so how about taking a run at Arnott for the 3rd line center role. He is still floating around in free agency and he could bring that veteran presence we need at a cheaper price than Doan.
#Flyers and #Sabres are both still pushing to land Bobby Ryan. I have heard that the #Sabres have an offer on the table. #NHLDucks - Sabres2012CUP
If it is in any way true it must involve Ennis. Its the only reason this deal is not done. Since the arrival of terry we have never hesitated a second to sign a guy we intend to get or keep.

I was thinking about that a little......but I really just cant see Darcy trading Ennis.
I hope not. We are thin enough at C as it is. - burner087
if you think about it though we have Grigs, Hodgson, Girgs, that could potentially be our top 3 centers for years to come. That could be a sick top 3 if they pan out.
this leads me to think that Ennis could be moved......would Darcy trade Ennis if we could land a guy like Cullen to take his spot until Grigs and Girgs are ready?

Me, I wouldn't trade Ennis. You draft a guy and he does exactally what he was supposed to do up to this point, you don't trade him. But it looks like this might happen.

You know... We NEVER heard about who was available and who we were dangling before we traded Kassian, Grags, Butler, McArtchur, or even Paetsch.
the only person that we realllly saw coming was Campbell lately.
For how tight lipped Darcy is about things....
Iginla or E. Kane could already be house shopping in Buffalo and we just don't know yet.

The Flyers already have 8 NHL dmen under contract (if you included restricted Borbons contract). They also have Gustafson who played well in limited duty in the playoffs last year and will most likely be their 6th dman this year even though he only makes 900K.
The 2 or 3 dmen mentioned on this thread are all good puck movers, but would most likely not even break the Flyers' top 5. The only way the Flyers trade the best playoff forward since the lockout is going to be for a stud D in conjunction with another trade to move out a dman.
Also saying Coburn cannot play big minutes is beyond rediculous. He averaged 27 plus minutes in the playoffs last year and had 3 games over 29. He is a very good dman.
I could see these team hooking up for a trade prior to the deadline, but I don't see the fit for the players mentioned right now.
If you notice the d names rumored to go to the Flyers this year its all big names. They have plenty of 4 through 6 dmen.

Brennan is NOT known for his puck moving skills... he brings the hits and has a very very good shot.
I personally just think that these two teams hate eachother too much to try to make one another better.

heres his scouting report:
ASSETS: A good skater who possesses very good offensive ability, he can be a major asset on the power play. Also moves the puck with aplomb.
FLAWS: Makes mistakes when he's pressured with the puck. Needs to avoid taking bad penalties in the defensive zone, as well as polish up his play without the puck.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Offensive defenseman with some upside.

i don't think the Flyers hate Buff. we traded lindros to the rangers. anything is possible.
