what exactly can be reconfigured? there isnt any possible way to put seats behind one net... That is a huge problem.. it cant be fixed without redoing the brand spaking new arena... thats not an option.

No, not at all........they should both be held accountable after this year. The difference is, the leafs will fire Burke for under performing, where as the isles will praise Snow for his patience and due diligence.

Bottom line : I'd rather a GM strike out swinging, then standing there watching the pitch go by.....

Cannot believe i used baseball in my analogy, but it worked!

Both teams from Ownership on down have done a bad job. Snow has done a good job in building up the prospects and a lousy job at hiring coaches. Snow has to show he can take the team to the next level. I think Burke overpayed for Kessel and has done bad in free agency.

Whenever you take over a team with basically ZERO prospects, it takes time. I will admit i thought he gave up too much for Phil Kessel, but he felt like he needed a top line player and he went out and got one. Yes the leafs have sucked, but he took over the team with nothing to work with.

As I mentioned before, the guy is active.......gotta like that if you're a leafs fan.

this sounds familiar....kinda like....hmmm...tip of my tongue....oh.... THE ISLANDERS!!!

AND the maple leafs are example #1 proving that big trades and big signings dont lead to success...id rather have the islanders future than the leafs...(arena issues aside)

Gordon is a good coach.

The system he wanted to play hurt him... because he didn't have the right personal for it @ the time.

The Maple Leafs used to play a similar system... that is why Gordon was brought in.

Not sure what they are doing now with Carlyle... different type of coach.

It remains to be seen. If Gordon did not have the right pieces he should not have played that system. A good coach plays the system that fits the talent.

The big thing for them is a first line centre, and a goalie.

They are strong on defence.

Isles on the other hand have their top centre, and lots of goalie depth.

They need to fill out the blueline, which they are attempting to do through the draft, and the Vis trade.

They could also give Tavares a little more help on the big line!!!

- jimmc7722

I love how the trade happened on draft day, and its now a month and a half later, and the isles still dont know if they got the player they traded for? As of right now, Visnovsky is not an islander. So, the isles blueline could still use some help....

As for them getting a legit winger for JT.........its gonna happen, just after 2015

To be honest... it probably didn't matter what system he played @ the time... we were @ rock bottom.

Left Wing Lock... 1.2.2, etc... I don't think anything would have worked....

I dunno........there are too many question marks for the islanders. The biggest, is where will they play after 2015. I personally dont think they are going to move to brooklyn. I think its posturing by Charles Wang......trying to get leverage to get what he wants, by threatening to leave.

I personally dont see how moving the team to an arena that he doesnt own, would be lucrative enough for the guy who claims to lose 20 shmill a year. Wang himself said re doing the coliseum alone wouldnt generate enough revenue to make it worth his while. But, playing in an arena that he doesnt own will????

This Vish thing taking this long is a joke. The arena deal will happen faster. This entire offseason has been brutal with everything in limbo.

I agree........yeah that system worked in providence, but it clearly wasnt working on the islanders. Hence, their 20 game losing stretch.

I also didnt like how they handled Brendan Witt. Yes, he was slow, but you dont put your warrior out to pasture like they did. Obviously Witt didnt think Gordons system was working.......and guess what, it wasnt!

Definately need more help on D... with or without Vis.

KO will probaly spend alot of time on the top line with JT. Along with giving Boyes a chance to see if there's any chemistry there.

Its the same old Islanders. NOTHING has changed. I got news for you.......watch them not sign Matt Martin too. Anyone who thinks this isnt a possibilty is crazy. Especially with Wang saying everyone must be signed by camp or they dont play the year....

You may be right. I just think it would help the entire team and especially put Snow in a better light if the Islanders had a solid Vet coach. Solid vet coach and a solid trade or two not even a bloackbuster trade and the Isles are looking a whole lot better.

If Okposo doesnt play a little more mean this year, im done with him. I've never seen a power forward who is such a wuss. They isles thought they were getting a bull in Okposo, but he's played like a fawn

The thing with that is, a vet coach would want to coach. They dont want a coach. They want a yes man......

Its no secret that they've brought in no name after no name..........all are AHL coaches looking to get a foot in the door in the NHL. So for them, its worth being a yes man just to get NHL coach on the resume.

It would be pretty sad if both sides cannot get a deal done. I think it will get done.Wang needs to focus on the arena and stay out of playing GM.

There is no excuse not to have a solid coach especially when you are trying to rebuilt with young talent. It's not like trying to sign a top FA or making a blockbuster trade. There should be at least a couple of solid coaches who would take the Islander job. Things like this make it very hard to back Wang and Snow.

but im talking strictly personnel...we were talking strictly about how players were being brought into the system and which players/team have the brighter outlook. my point was big trades/signings dont necessarily mean a better outlook. the isles have a deeper system at this point and have more assets to work with than the leafs.

im putting the arena issue aside cuz even worse case scenario if they leave to quebec or KC or wherever, THAT team will be better and have a better outlook than the leafs.
