The Canucks were a breath away from having Gretzky signed the year before and blew it by disrespecting him at home. Then they sign Messier instead. They were so close to soaring high but crashed and burned instead. Pilot error.

I can only begin to imagine the type of domination that we would have seen out of Gretzky and Bure.

Bure-Gretzky-Mogilny

Along with a cast of Linden, Courtnall, Adams, Ronning, Riley. Crazy stuff.

Instead we ended up with Messier, Keenan and a complete deconstruction of the players you just listed.

Not to mention Bure probably wouldn't have demanded a trade if he had Gretzky as his center instead of Messier creeping on him.

its a long time ago, but wasn't the media coverage Pavel's biggest issue?

Gretzky was playing them. He never intended to become a Canuck.

There were a lot of issues with Bure and Canucks management. This probably why Pavel has yet to return any of Gillis's calls in regards to some sort of ceremony ie ring of honor. Pat Quinn tried to screw over a Bure a few times. One of the best ones was when Quinn slipped into one of Bure's contracts that he would be paid in Canadian dollars not American. The loonie was trading at about $.60 on the american dollar. Every other contract was in American dollars. I don't blame Pavel for wanting out. The media might have annoyed him but management was the major problem.

He was seriously considering it until Quinn put a gun to his head at 3:00 AM demanding he sign a contract.

Why is Kesler in the news again seems like this is version two of Hodgson?

I heard the team 1040 asking yesterday is there more to this than meets the eye?

You do realize a healthy Kesler means he and his agent don't get a paycheck if there is a strike. I also think Gillis may have been doing damage control. As in he is more desprete to make a deal to offset the Kesler injury.

His agent is trying to protect his client, with Kesler's injury history, he's trying to get him to not play and get paid by insurance until he's fully healed. My guess is that the whole thing is moot as the season probably isn't going to start on time anyways and by the time it is, he'll be mostly ready to go.
