Why? He already carries a big stick- always takes one of the kids under his wing....

I think it's a good move. Very well respected.

I love brieres offense...his defense is the worst. cant have your captain being that lazy in his own zone... especially playoffs!

When looking at the potential market for UFA defensemen in 2013 and even 2014, one thing seems rather obvious to me... The Flyers need to trade for a defenseman, if they hope to get an above average one.  There are absolutely no big names that hit the open market over the next couple of seasons.  There are however, a lot of great forwards that will potentially hit the open market next summer (Iginla, Perry, Getzlaf, Clarkson, Morrow, Horton, Clowe, Weiss).  As much as I'd love to see the Flyers get Bobby Ryan, I'd much rather see them wait and see who steps up this season and possibly add a guy like Perry or Iginla at the trade deadline or in the offseason through free agency.  The Flyers forwards are deep and there will potentially be a great market for them to add even more pieces over the next couple of seasons.  You cannot say the same about their defenseman though.  The open market for them is very shallow over the next couple of seasons and they need to make a trade, if they hope to significantly improve their back end.  I'd love to see them add Boumesteer, if the asking price isn't too high. (IT IS)  He does have a hefty cap hit, but they could absorb it no problem without Pronger being there and with Timonen's salary coming off the cap this offseason, they could most likely absorb it next season as well.  It's a huge risk, but I don't see the Flyers with a lot of options going forward with their defense.

yeah agreed they need to make a move for a D man. Moving past the Weberwatch 2012, the in season move will be again to acquire a D man. Probably closer to the deadline. With the picks they retained they will be able to move an asset or two. But I dont think you target another grossman or kubina (ugh), thinking you go for Bogosian or a Vet name, I guess possibly Boyle.

I would like to see the former, to take a developing kid with great upside obviously with Timo coming off the books Prongs gone and a hole on the first pairing after this year. yeah might have to give something up, glad im not pulling the strings.

But if they can find a rental for Timo's last year and make a strong stretch push, this might be there last chance with the D squad in place.

Things on D might get worse after this year people

another thing about those pics and quotes is, if that were Richards and Carter uttering those words the torches and pitchforks would be sold out at homedepot. I know this because I'd be in line getting them

From watching that play you obviously can see that it was ALL Bryzgalov's fault. #sarcasm.

huh? how does this work? oh well who cares.

I expect MAB to be in the Top 6 this season for the Flyers. His curve was trending way up IMO before his conky. Bruno/MAB several steps ahead of Gus IMO

Sorry, was researching Briere's CORGI stats as you spoke.

I crunched a lot of numbers, but it appears as if on a scale of 1 corgi to 10, he is at 8 corgis, which if you divide by 2 and do a backflip, comes out to 1,200 corgis, which means he would not be a bad choice for captain.
