One way or another, the Vancouver Canucks appear determined to add a skilled veteran presence to their core of forwards for 2012-13.

The most coveted free agent on the NHL market, Shane Doan, dined with the Canucks’ brass on Tuesday night, according to multiple reports.

As a possible Plan B to their bid for Doan, the Canucks have opened discussions with veteran centre Jason Arnott, reports the Vancouver Sun.

Culture and demographics. There aren't many African-Canadians, Afro-Swedes, Russians, Czechs, etc., that have been living in the lands of ice and snow for enough generations to have moved away from playing soccer, basketball, etc., into playing hockey.

There are probably socio-economic dimensions as well, especially in the States.

After listening to Darcy speak, it dosen't sound like anything is going to happen anytime soon. Doan?? He visited several teams and Buffalo wasn't one of them.
