I love how people are freaking out about the Desbiens signing. It's clear that Arniel suggested this and obviously likes him as a AHL player and as a locker room guy(I believe he was a captain or assistant captain with the Moose). And of course he wanted an NHL contract sound wasn't going to accept an AHL contract from the Wolves.

As for Doan, I think this team would be set to make another cup run if he decides to sign here. However, if Doan signs here and Luongo is still on the roster then you can forget about Tallon even considering a trade with Bjugstad because the Canucks would be over the cap and keeping both goalies wouldn't be an option unless someone like Ballard gets traded instead.

I'm also not a big Arnott fan, but there aren't a ton of options left for the 3LC hole. I'd prefer Dominic Moore but I'm not sure that's possible for obvious reasons.

He would probably take another reduction to play on a top team again. 2 mil sounds right and considering he can play on the PP and take shifts on the second line, it's money well spent. It may get in the way of Schroeder making the 3rd line of course but Schroeder will have his shot at the 2nd line C while Kes is out. If he impresses, they will figure something out.

I was thinking 1.8 to 2.2 he is getting old.

If Doan signed I'm guessing it would be in the 5-6m range (the 7.5m per is ridiculous and I don't think it was either what he's asking for or what Gillis would pay). Assuming for this argument that Doan signs for 6m, that would put the Canucks at about 3.57m over the cap.

In this scenario, if the only thing on offer for Luongo was someone else's salary dump, I imagine Gillis would trade Ballard in a salary dump - say Ballard for a 4th to the NYI. This would remove his 4.2m and get us back under.

There are so many scenarios available to GMs (especially this one) and so much time to action them. I'm actually surprised that people who are fans of hockey constantly see roadblocks everywhere.

I'm surprised that some hockey fans continue to over value their assets when clearly the market is saying otherwise.

It's not just Nuck fans. I'm probably a little guilty of it myself. I think Hemsky is worth way more than the interest has shown he is worth. Lou is clearly not worth what Vancouver thinks he is (at the current time. Things could change 15 games into the season if someone's starter goes down to injury). Nash clearly did not get the return that Columbus wanted. The asking price for Ryan, Jbo, Yandle has been ridiculous. So I think it would be foolish to just go 4 mill over the cap thinking you could dump Ballard or Lou or Raymond on anyone. Remember Calgary a couple years ago? When they had injuries and because of Cap situation had to ice a team short of a full roster? I dont think Any GM wants to be in that situation.

I don't think he meant two meetings in one visit, I think he is referring to shortly after July 1, Gillman met with Doan and agent to discuss possibility. They have also had several phone conversations, as I understand it.

Desbiens can be called up for a few games against the Bruins LA or another big tough team. Then sent back down .

I don't really see your point in relation to anything I've said, unless you are saying Ballard simply cannot be traded even to a cap floor team needing D for a 4th, 5th, 6th, or even 7th rounder. One thing is not getting the value you'd like, the other is simply not being able to move a player. This summer, you are seeing the former not the latter. If a GM is committed to moving an asset (unless that asset is entirely useless) it'll happen.

I don't think that is quite correct, I believe that he said that Doan had not visited Vancouver because Doan was so familiar with the city and surrounding area. I'm pretty sure that Gillman visited Doan/Bross shortly after July 1.

On a 10-year contract.
- Bodhisattva

Look closely at the contract.
There are options in the 5 and 7 year marks that give the club or the player the chance to move on. I can't remember in what order they are, if it's the club at year 5 and the player at year 7 or visa versa.

Arnott produced as well as Booth did last year for 1.255 mil less and was healthy enough to play more games.

I know alot of people don't like his foot speed but on a one year deal it is worth it. If Luongo and Raymond get moved, there is room for both Arnott and Doan. That makes us much bigger, more physical and a huge veteran leadership injection.

I cannot imagine going into another playoffs with no solid back up plan for Kesler. He's been injured four straight playoffs now and that has been a big factor in why we fell short in those seasons. Just like he was a huge factor in going deep when he was actually healthy for 3 rounds in 2011.

I dream of the day when the Canucks can rotate 3 or 4 lines in the playoffs that have a hulk net presence.

Luongo can provide a 5 team trade list following the 2013/14 season if he desires a trade which is only valid until July 15, 2014 (that's in 2 years!). If Luongo does not submit a trade list at that time, the team can request a five team list after the 2017/18 season which is valid until September 1, 2018. If Luongo submits a list in 2014 and is not traded, the team loses the option in 2018. All this may be moot however, as it is not clear if the NTC will follow Luongo once he waives it in this initial trade, maybe yes, maybe no...

It's really strange that you are seeing people freaking out about Desbien? Where is this happening? I don't want to run into these crazies...

As far as it being obvious that Arniel wants him, don't forget that AV liked him enough to give him a roaster spot out of camp a couple of years ago...he made the team once already. I'd say AV's influence is in play here more than Arniel.
