Both, IF Doan signs he can play with the twins and probably have a very productive year. That allows Burrows to slide down to the second line where him and Kes have chemistry. Now we have two good top six lines with the second being Booth Kes Bur.
If Kassian can show he's ready to stay in the NHL, that POSSIBLY allows him to play RW on the third line making Hansen and or Raymond available in a trade with Lu. Signing Doan gives Gillis a lot of options, well maybe not a lot but definitely more. - LeftCoaster
Obviously I wouldn't be too opposed to Doan on the Sedin line, but I think it's more important to spread out the scoring, and Doan would have much more of an impact on the second line than Burrows would.
The chemistry between Burrows and Kesler was non-existant the few time they were put together last season, and the first line is fine as it is—if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Doan's skill set and leadership would be better with Kes, on the 2nd line. |

Ya how could they justify bringing in doan for 1.4 more that the Sedins. When players like Burrows, Kesler, Hamhuis, Bieksa and obviously the twins taking less. Doan is smart enough to understand that they have a business model. If he wants to come here he'll have to fit in. - Boinker
I don't think Doan is the one pushing for the big money, otherwise I think he would have signed one of those 4 yr/30m contracts. I think his agent is driving the price up but do not feel Doan cares what he gets paid, he knows it will be millions and for whatever term he would like. I also think he is a character guy and understands the makeup of a locker room and would not want to throw the chemistry out of whack because how would that help you try and win a cup. |

Buffalo still has CRAZY offer on table for Doan but if it's a west coast team he picks - the #Canucks are the front-runners.
It's Buffalo pushing the money. Where would you rather live Vancouver or Buffalo? I think Doan can afford to leave $1.4m on the table to sign here... |

Potter really struggled after getting his contract mid way through the season. There is probably a chance he gets sent down on waivers by the start of the season, you could grab him for free then |

So if he is something you feel you really need to get over the hump is it worth it to you to trade Luongo to florida for whatever you can get or do you think will hold steadfast on the return he is looking for?
If Gillis has been waiting this whole time on Doan to decide on Luongo it could have been the holdup the whole time.
DoMiNoEs..... - MindFr3eak
If we get Doan, then the cap space is the return for Lu. If we don't, getting a return for Lu is more important. I guess it really depends how we improve the team. |

The other factor to consider is will it be easier to get to the finals thru the East or West (not that either is easy)? At least in the West Doan knows exactly who/what he is up against. The evil you know vs the one you don't.
I firmly believe if he signs anywhere it will be West coast, and his family will have more input on the signing than his agent. Agent just wants more money so he gets a higher %. Anyone who is married knows that happy wife = happy life. |

Agreed. Put Doan with Kesler so he can be the first one to b!tch-slap him everytime he starts whining or flopping. |

I'm sure if Ballard was made available for a late draft pick, van could easily move him. Same goes for Raymond. - Bieksa#3
I don't think a lot of teams are looking strictly to take on salary. Your partners will be fairly limited. |

Wherever Doan signs I just wish it would happen soon so the hockey world can move on. To truly be Sundin Saga 2.0 I would like Gillis to offer him 2 for 20. |

If Visnovsky gets his trade voided I can see Ballard being a great fit with NYI. Don't care what round pick we get either, would be pure salary dump, or try and include MayRay and get a prospect back, higher pick. (MG thinks highly of Bailey) |

I agree, the East will be interesting and could be the harder road. I think in the West there will be a few teams not making the playoffs from last year, and I would even add DET to the teams that got weaker. |

MIN got better, if they stay healthy can make the playoffs, don't see them going too far.
EDM needs goaltending and defense, have the firepower.
DAL could be a team that could surprise people, but don't think they have the team depth and without OTT I would not be worried about them in a best of 7.
ANA is a mess, don't see the top line being there next year, and sadly I predict this to be the year where age/injury gets Teemu.
LA is still solid, hoping they have the CUP hangover, unfortunately they did not have any 7 game series, or any particularly gruelling ones.

There are a handful of teams that Ballard would be an upgrade to one of their top 4. It's not strictly salary—Ballard can be an asset when used properly. |

If you want the make believe
Rumour_Express @InsiderLegit
Well there are 3 teams..... 1 that is a big surprise... NYI, NJD, and if the Canucks fail to land Doan and then fail to get a top six (Cont)
Rumour_Express @InsiderLegit
(Cont) Forward via Luongo trade they will try to get Ryan
Because he has Legit in his name, must be true.
He also speculated on this beauty

If you were Florida would you take this deal? Luongo, Schroeder, Raymond for Bjugstad and Matthias. - immature_male

Oh yeah.....because sending Luongo and Ballard in the same deal will be soooooo easy. I'm sure there are teams all over the league looking to take that dollar figure on. And all of this for prospects/picks. Dreamworld, meet Canuck fans. - Bodhisattva
Did I say that'd they'd all go together in a package No....no I didn't. |

Ya they have the cap space. They'd just trade Luongo for prospects/picks. If it came down to it they could send Raymond wioth Luongo = $7.5 and even Ballard at $4.2 They could potentially free up 11.7 pretty easily. Doan, IMO, is something we've been missing for the last three years. He'd help this team a ton in both leadership, size and goal scoring. - Boinker
They dont have the cap space. They have 2.4 mill in cap space. You say trade Lou for prospects and picks but if it were possible it would have been done already. I think Doan would help any club he goes to but I dont see him worth 7 mill. |

Gillis is currently looking for more than that, if his situation changes I'm sure the demands will aswell.

They can go over by 10% (roughly 7 mil) until the start of the season. This number may change with a new CBA, if one gets signed prior to Sept 15, but for now, Gillis can spend another $9.5 mill, no problem signing Doan with that. Then he will need to move some salary in the form of a trade... First things first. |

Ballard definitely has some value to teams looking to hit the cap floor. I still think he was not used effectively with AV. He was a decent player when he played outside of Van.
Mason raymond on the other hand is useless. The only bright spot is that his contract expires at the end of the year so a team looking to get to the floor can take a flier on him and if craps the bed they can be rid of him.
The bigger question is what will they resign Burrows for at the end of the year. He has drastically out played his contract and you know if he hits the open market some teams (MTL and Que/Pho) will offer him 4 -5 mill a year on the open market. |
