I was assuming we would be taking back a goalie to trade for a Dman I was thinking Murrya as the 5 th not the 3 rd. - VANTEL
That's just too many moves for any team to make in one off-season. |

That might be more realistic than actually making that trade/signings that we're discussing. - Nucker101
I recall really hoping that Niedermeyer would sign here for one or two years before retiring. Alas, it wasn't to be. |

Of course.
We're starting to dream more than TOR fans though which is scary. |

Well I think Lu is going .
I wouldn't be surprised if Ballard Manny and Raymond don't finish the year here.
Edler is a 50/50 . If he isn't re-signed by TDL he may be on his way out.
In fact there may be very little movement this year or there could be a lot. |

Vishnovsky. He put up 68 points the season before last though. Only 27 points last year, but the Ducks were fairly awful. I'd think he's a fair bit more valuable than Ballard unless he's not fully healthy. - micah555
He's also an UFA in one more year. My point was that teams near the bottom of payroll ladder would be less resistent to acquiring a player like Ballard, who in all likelihood could contribute in a top 4 capacity for them. If Gillis was willing to accept his mistake and take a 3rd/4th/5th round pick instead of what he paid prospect(1st rounder)+1st round I think that's an easy deal to make. |

Neids could never play here because of the BC bud. It would be too accessible and he would have been high for every game. |

Ballard will probably be in Det at the start of the season if we sign a big name . Dominos |

Everything is clear as mud
The good thing is we have many options and this year and next should be fun with the free agency pool and trades. Some big names have been moved and some still out there and it makes it fun.
I think Canucks ( me coming back to Earth) need to make at least one more big move this summer. I think if we could switch Manny for Arnott ,and get Doan or Ryan then it will be a very successful offseason - VANTEL
I don't think the Nucks are prepared to pay the price for Ryan. I'd love to have Arnott as our 3LC, he'd be a bit of a mentor to Jensen even though they play dif positions.
I have a feeling we could get a nice return for Ballard from Detroit. They're really thin on D and Babcock could turn him around.

IMHO I am not expecting Thorton or Ryan . We were just having fun . Arnott is a good cheap 3 rd liner . The salary put on him would be salary off seeing there would be no need for Manny |

I bet we're stuck with Manny for a while. GM MG always talks him up and AV leans on him. I think he'll be a bit better this season, but don't be surprised to see him magically resigned for next. Same for Raymond. Maybe it's something where Gillis feels he owes something to players that got injured.
And in your last post you said you were coming down to earth... still in the clouds then... |

He currently plays for no team until the decision... so Anaheim would be unable to trade him (again) even if they wanted to. |

The simple counter argument would be that Joe has 2 years left on his contract. Of course that poses problems to the trade value as well, since he's not sure to sign an extension to any team that trades for him, but you know... - AlexF
Totally agree. But I think that's short sighted. Here's the breakdown over the next two years.
Thornton (next 2 years):
2012-13 - $7,000,000 (cap $7,000,000)
2013-14 $6,000,000 (cap $7,000,000)
Luongo (next 2 years):
2012-13 - $6,714,000 (cap $5,333,333)
2013-14 - $6,714,000 (cap $5,333,333)
Even with the additional six years I think Lu has better value. |

Fair enough.
I wasn't trying to be literal. Just meant that Burke being fired from his "destiny" might just be enough to make the old Irish bastard snap. |
