They'll probably extend him sometime over the course of the year. I'd be surprise if they let him walk. - NickTheKid87
I agree more than I disagree, but if he leaves, he is certainly more valuable than Jagr is. He would have no problem getting a terrific deal and playing time. Can't blame Philly for letting him walk and bumping up some younger guys unless they get a deal with him they can't pass up. They have around $3.5 million to play with right now...who knows? Just seems a bit odd of them not to work with a guy of his status before hand. Of course....there is a threat of a late start anyway
Dry spells are fine...It's not the end of the world...I'm not a fan of Bryz or that contract, but was very glad that Homer did try addressing that huge on going and never ending problem that the Flyers have...I pray to god everyday that the Flyers don't trade for Ryan and go after Doan or Yandle or Arnott or other good character mid level players to fill the holes...They do have some good young players that might get bigger roles this season...As long as they have Bryz, I'm not holding my breath on them winning the Cup... - Flyfreaky
Bryz is good enough to win a Cup with. Worse goalies have won it.

i'm sure the Habs, with their 24 stanley cups (only 3 less championships than the yanks) might have something to say about that. - sensarmy_11
Only concerning titles one...even some of those should have asterics beside it with the many years of two "drafts" they got.
But as for money, following and revenue generated, they aren't.
I understand your frustration. I am a Red Sox fan, have been my whole life. I HATE contracts that massively overpay players though. I don't mind paying more, but paying 2x or 3x over market value is stupid and my boys are paying for some of that right now. I can't wait til' they hand the reigns to the young guns we have who deserve a chance to play. By September thats what we will see
As far as the Penguins go---I think they have handled contracts exceptionally. I'm excited to see our more even aged team this year - HopintheCordoba
Yes, the Penguins have done a good job with their contracts. Trading Staal was necessary and by doing so, replentished your prospect pool.

Ehhhhhh, it was pretty loaded before, defensively anyway. We just added to it with Pouliot, Dumoulin and Maatta. We got a decent replacement and a stud defenseman that either will play this season or next season in Dumoulin. Pouliot and Maata are probably a little ways away. Harrington and Morrow along with Despres could probably play this year. Odds are with our excess of defensive depth someone will be traded between now and deadline for a forward.

Bryz is horrible...His biggest problem is something that you can't teach or change...He can't handle the pressure of playing for a team like Philly...I hope I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not...

Look at the numbers. Bryz had some big years in Phoenix. He was one of the better goalies in the NHL last year from February on as well. He also single-handedly kept the Flyers in the New Jersey series. If it weren't for him they would have lost each game by at least 2 or 3 goals.
So an RFA would have two choices, sign what he is offered no matter how bad or don't play? It is bad enough now with the NHL GM's being so hands off on these sheets.

Prospects are just that until the step up or are traded for a good player. The only thing the Pens/Flyers series proved this year was that the only Atlantic team with a D worse than the Flyers (which was missing 3 of top its five at least) was the Pens. If the Pens D is in such good shape, why that result? I hope the guy they got in the Stal trade plays well and Martin picks it up or it could be more of the same.
