Here's the bottom line. As long as Claude Giroux is a top player in the League, he is going to be targeted physically. Especially in the playoffs. It's simply part of the game.

Exactly, always has been, always will be that way. It's not a coincidence that Marty McSorley was traded to LA with Gretzky.

I'm not sure "all is fair" is part of the game. A Lindros forecheck is different than a slash to a wrist.

I am more interested in seeing clean, hard checks. Nothing to the head. There was nothing I enjoyed about Richard's hit to Booth.

The refs in the NHL kind of suck (complete opposite of the refs here ).

IMO, you should:

1) Prevent plays that injure and are illegal (and make calls accordingly)
2) Call penalties that are automatic (break stick, puck out of play)
2) After #1&2 - call penalties in priority of related infraction's impact on the game. A tug on a breakaway is different than a tug in the corners or at midice. Use your f'ing head.

The game has been played like this since forever. Plus, look how Pronger played. He'd play dirty and wouldn't get caught all the time. Crosby has been a little hypocritical but I still don't think this whole thing is a big deal. Lesser known players do much worse on a more regular basis.

Nice to see a youngster with a good head on his shoulders Nick. Go play soccer is right...

Or how about keeping the calls consistent? The 1st round of the playoffs the referees called some of the ticky tacky calls but by the 2nd round those calls stopped getting called.

Trading anything for J-Bo is an overpayment. He makes waaaaaaay too much for what he brings to a team.

Well, on the other hand there's some part of the Penguins fanbase that finds this to be an incendiary interview, some even calling it whining. So, the role reversal isn't limited to the east end of the state.

That said, I take no issue with either the incident nor Claude talking about it. It's hockey, just as it ever was.

fine by me as long as crosby gets his wrist broken next year. preferably right around the playoffs.

I see what you're saying but at the end of the day these guys are world-class athletes playing a highly competitive sport at the highest level. You can't expect them to have control of their "competitive juices" at any given time. Dirty play is part of every sport and that's just the nature of competition.

Getting rid of hits from behind and to the head I agree with wholeheartedly but incidents like the one with Giroux and Crosby is unavoidable and I consider it a part of the game, not a deviant act within the game.

If Claude had the same personality as Crosby then you could take this as whining but we all know he doesn't.

there's a word for those of us Flyer fans who want to cry about this latest crosby thing: Hypocrites

as defined on Dictionary.com
Hypocrite
1.a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

We loved it when Clarkie did it. We loved it when Lindros demolished people and we love it when any number of the guys on the team do this stuff now. Giroux really needs to be ready for it next time around.

Nope. You'd be trading close to Bouwmeester in Meszaros alone.

I was going to say Mez by himself might be too much when you factor is skillset/cap hit.

I dont know if this was touched on over the weekend, but its certainly interesting:

"As if fans of the Philadelphia Flyers needed another reason to dislike Sidney Crosby ...

As relayed by CSNPhilly.com, the Pittsburgh Penguins superstar is to blame for wrist injuries suffered by Flyers forward Claude Giroux. Injuries that required offseason surgery.

"Those are from Crosby," Giroux told Kevin Anderson of The Northern Times (Timmins, Ontario) when asked about the scars on his wrists. "Every time we'd line up against each other for a face-off during our series, instead of going for the puck when it was dropped, he'd hack me across the wrists. I ended up playing the series against Jersey with one of them fractured and had to go for surgery on both of them after we were out of the playoffs."

No response to this accusation from Crosby to date, as per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. However, it was already determined that the Penguins forward would decline all interview requests this summer."

Three Words: Robert Earle Clarke.

Hockey's a rough game. If the ref ain't calling it, I'm going to try and get away with it.

I also don't see Giroux as whining about it. He simply admitted a fact, and knows it's part of the game.

Probably true when you factor in the age and cap hit. Right now, If J-Bouw is the answer, the Flyers shouldn't be asking the question.

Very funny. Did Lemieux have the same rep as Crosby currently does (not just in Philly) around the league? Of course not and we all know why.

I will save you the time in responding. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I said the same thing - and being the leader of the Bullies he took liberties.
