Ya seeing the money tied up on VAN D I couldn't see any interest in a dman. Gunnar is nice with his cap hit but he is a minute muncher and I'm sure you'd rather those minutes going to the big money guys.

Up front there is value I wouldn't say it's extremely thin it's just mostly in the mid level range very little high end talent and most guys are a poor fit. The only 3 I think would fit in VAN and improve the team are Kessel, Loops and Kulimen.

Don't see any deal between the Leafs and Van mostly because of the amiosity between Burke and Gillis.

- Blazed

Were the hell are we putting Kulemin. No interest what so ever. Guys numbers and inconsistant play are just like Raymond.(different style of player however) Take a look at their numbers the last 3 yrs. Pretty comparable. Not saying Kulemin isn't better but there are plenty of young guys I'd rather in the top 6 then Kulemin.

That would be foolish . If any GM didn't make a trade that would help the team because his feeling are hurt deserves to finish in the bottom of the league.

I will try to explain it this way . Your minute muncher low cost D man may be very good on the Leafs but may have a hard time making a better team. Here is an example of what I mean . Sulzer and Hodson have trouble making the Canucks and yet they are stars on the Buffalo team. Buffalo didn't make the playoffs. So being a good player on a weaker team does not mean they crack the top 4 or 6 on the better teams.

I voted for Daniel Sedin only because the team played alot better when he was in the lineup and I still believe that if duncan didn't headshot him we would have had a good chance against the kings.

Whether or not we would have won is debatable, but its pretty easy to see it would have been a longer series

I dont think they will refuse to deal with each other more that they will not be able to reach an agreement.

Gunnar is very underrated he faces top compitition at big minutes I think he could challenge a top 4 spot in Vancouver. He would look good with Bieksa. With Garrison added though doesn't seem so likely. Personel wise I don't find Vancouvers D overly more impressive than Toronto. Atleast not as individuals as a group yes.

Not trying to start an argument (although I'm sure that is where it will end up) but I dont think it would have much of a difference. No offense.

Maybe Vancouvers D is on par with the Leafs D that is subjective ,but we have very good goaltending to take us on deep runs .I consider making it the second round a success. That is a huge difference that Vancouver has over Toronto. You can knock Luongo all you want but he wins at least 30 games a year.

I agree with you, goaltending is huge it can make or break your team. I have no doubt Luo next season would make the Leafs much more competitive. My issue is he is now on the decline (still very good) and has too much term left.

By the time the Leafs are competing for the Cup he will likely be a burden. What if they acquire Luo and Reimer and/or Scrivens plays lights out? At camp or by mid season or even a year or two from now? Luos value is even lower then.

I just don't like the risk. I would love to make the playoffs next season but the ultimate goal remains to eventually play for a Cup. The worst that can happen with a Reimer/Scrivens combo is Nathan MacKinnon and that doesn't seem so bad.

I'm against Bernier as well. Big upside but still a big gamble. If Luo had two years left teams would be fighting over him.

The problem is he doesn't have two years left. He has 6 years. Let's not get into the stupid discussion of his cap curcumvented contract. He will retire for the last 4 years. He has 6 years left and would provide the Leafs or Hawks with stability and goaltending a team needs for at least 4 -5 of them . There is nothing on the horizon or in the system of either of those teams . Itwould take at least 4 years for the Leafs or Hawks to get a competitive goalie in their system. I can not paint the picture any clearer than that. If you are happy as a team playing with a sub par goalie for that length of time then the discussion becomes pointless.

The fact is you will not get Luongo for a player unless it is a top 6 forward or top 4 D

You say that like that is a given. It's not. And it's certainly not any more likely if your team keeps missing the playoffs.

Hey guys, please don't just start insulting fans of other teams when they come in. You can (and will) get banned for it. Blazed was fine until he made a threatening post. Calling him stupid for having an different take is not productive or tolerated.

As usual, you're way off track (what else should be expected?). Aside from his "tool"-ish aspect, Kesler is an elite player and one of the best defensive players in the NHL. He's not getting votes for one simple (even you could understand it -- if you try) reason: he had a crappy year last season. So, by your 'reasoning', Gagner and Hemsky are "tools" too, right? Grow up -- or at least be realistic when you comment.
- Vagabond

Hmmm. It seems that most of the Canuck fans have agreed with my comments except you. The fact that you bring up Hemsky and Gags means you dont have a clue. Kesler's problem isn't his abilities, its his CHARACTER or rather lack of...

Point taken.
However, I think it is an anti- Vancouver Island bias.

I actually didn't realize Cumberland was on the island. I thought it might be inland. I've driven through it before, but I must not have taken much notice.

A good hockey trade is when both sides think they gave up too much/got to little.

Unfortunately I do not think when we trade Luo it will be a good hockey trade.

His character is irksome but it hasn't really held him back as a player or made him less effective. He seems do do more of the diving antics when he is injured or otherwise less effective. It's not a good trait, but 'tool' isn't a nice way to describe him. He's a fiery competitor and a highly skilled player.

A funky, old mining town in the Comox Valley that is going through a bit of a Renaissance. Mountain biking Mecca and apres-ski destination for Mount Washington. I can tell you where to get the best sandwich & americano in town.
