Edler is Vancouver's best defenseman by far, they have to re-sign him, I think he gets 6 million.

Really? I watch the team and don't think that...I don't think he is currently better then hammy or beiksa.

Potential owner Greg Jamison did not reach out to Doan at all yesterday. It’s basically over, agent can’t believe it. Doan’s agent is now waiting for permission to start negotiations elsewhere. Visits could resume as early as Monday.

WOW!

I dont think many people are surprised by this. I can't imagine there being a line up for investing in a losing investment. If there is i have a great vacation spot in Antartica they might be interested in.

Edler is MUCH better than Bieksa—Bieksa has Hamhuis covering his ass.

If the Canucks had a right-handed version of Hamhuis to play with Edler, it would make Edler's job much easier.

That was Salo. And for some reason Vig much preferred sticking Bieksa with Edler and couldn't realize the cluster(frank) that was.

Don't get me wrong—I'm a huge Salo fan. He's a very smart, and positionally sound defenseman, but his body is too broken down to handle the task of a 1b pairing, and it got even worse after his concussion. Gotta wish him the best in TB—he scored a nice contract.

Overall, I'd agree, at this point, but Edler is better offensively.

If he could play for an entire season like he does the first 35 games, he'd be the Canucks best, unquestionably, and also one of the best in the league.

From a swede here... unless the swedes play in Detroit they dont seem to be bringing alot of cups in later years.

No, I think Lidstrom is the most overrated d-man in the game. I never, ever, ever considered him a tough hockey player. I don't think the guy ever through a single hit in his career, nor did he ever stick up for a teammate. I've seen some of his wimpy teammates get handled in front of him and he just stood there like a little wimp. I don't care what you guys think. Call him the best thing since Orr if you want, but I'd take many d-men over him, including Leetch, Stevens, Pronger, Chara, Niedermayer... The list goes on and on...

Is that supposed to be a slight on Ek, or Edler?

Enstrom

And the Corsi numbers are pretty similar. I think the bridge is much closer than you think.

He's better than Bieksa. Come on. Hamhuis is better defensively but Edler is the best offensively. Also, Edlers package is the best. He can bring everything to the table. It's about being consistent for him. I find it laughable that a lot of high up media members had him, at the halfway point, in the top 5 for Norris. He tailed off at the end of the season now everybody thinks he's not that good? Hilarious.

'The big question right now, though, is Edler worth a contract that will easily rise north of $5.5 million per season?'

Is it really that big of a question? Ek is the only one I've heard ask it.

We need more of those hits in the NHL. Perfectly clean hits where the distributor of the hit doesn't get molested by the entire opposing team. That being said, the rarity of such hits only adds to the excitement.

The same thing happened with Hall save his was more a case of injuries. Check out the Oilers website, Facebook page, etc and you'll find a mass of 'fans' suggesting he's practically worthless and to trade him ASAP. I saw the same thing was happening to Edler after his "less-than-stellar" playoffs The whole concept is laughable!

Bieksa is 3rd on the D chart and I only have him that high because we havent seen Garrison in a Nucs jersey yet.

Bieksa seems to be the internal salary cap for our D core so I don't see Edler a Canuck next season. He's not going to accept Bieksa money....

I would try and sign Edler now, I think him and Garrison are going to work very well together and you will get him at a reduced rate compared to after the season. I also think you would still be able to move him without too much hassle if it is not working out.
