I really enjoyed Different Seasons, a collection of 4 novellas that weren't of the horror/supernatural variety. Three of them inspired the movies The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, and Apt Pupil.

Skeleton Crew is good, too, if you're in the mood for some short stories.
