They'll never prohibit long term or frontloaded contracts. I don't even think that's legal (as in labor laws). What they can do is change the way the cap figure is determined based on deals like that.

im just saying for this year. we can worry about aquiring another wing next offseason. they can have him make a 2 year transition from wing to center

If the rumor the Sabres have an offer on the table for Ryan is true, I would suspect that Shane Doan has informed them he won't be coming here. Orrrrrr...they're trying to land Ryan as a tool to get Doan as well...ughh, I hate July..lol
