IT WAS 25 GAMES .....not the entire year or even half a year!!
Hodgson is a natural center: Good on draws, smart, good hands, good shot, and a PASS FIRST guy
Hodgsons only problem: his first stride was a little slow. He had the right idea most of the time but didnt have that acceleration to do it. From what i saw in rookie camp ..... he is def working on it with Gary Roberts and should be just fine!
Ennis: Not good on the draws, shifty, puck pocession forward. Ennis is good in space ....that doesnt mean hes a good NHL center. - buffalofan1027

Not trying to get in the middle of this, but Hodgson only played one full year in the league, too. Tough to heap such high praise on the kid, already, no?
I've been a hockey fan long enough (over 30 years) to know that there are more one-hit wonders that have come and gone to call Hodgson a sure thing.
Same goes for Ennis. |

I would agree. A center group of Getz, Ennis and Grigs would be awesome. You could roll 3 lines effectively. Losing Vanek creates a hole on the LW though. - mhp
For only a year until Armia comes up.Also Ryan plays LW to.Or we can have Matt Ellis on our First line if you want. |

Does it really matter if he's not a great "center", as long as he gets the job done?

i feel like getz would want to play here long term, and i definitely think we can sign him to a long term deal...before the new cba comes out even...just to sweeten/frontload the contract to him. he could be a great asset to our team for the next 10 years. - qcstudios
What makes u think he would want to play here?
There's little chance Getzlaf, Perry, Iginla... Or another big name UFA will sign an extension...
Why would they give up the opportunity to go to any city & organization they want?
Next summer will be just as crazy with insane contracts being thrown around....
I can't see anyone passing that up to play in buffalo...
NYC, LA, Philly... Maybe
Buffalo? Come on... Be realistic |

The contracts arent likely to be so insane after the new CBA |

BIAS BIAS BIAS ........ Ennis is not that good. 25 games at center mean jack squat!
Hodgson is the high hockey IQ player that actually can play center. Your 30 years of hockey is failing you!
Ennis will be nothing more then a 2nd line center ......hodgson has the potential to be a number 1 center. |

It's different when you have a gazillion dollar contract, and a place to ressurrect your career staring you dead in the eyes, like it would here. Not to mention being traded to a team desperate for a top center. Hockey-wise, it's a perfect match. |

...means nothing.
Since it looks like you're starting to get a bit wild and out of control, I'll let you win the arguement. But, don't question my eyes for hockey.
And I have to potential to be the President. Doesn't mean I will be. |

I don't think you could go wrong with either, but the Hodgson stories coming out of Vancouver concern me a little. - Powerslave
Even with the injuries, 3rd line minutes, supposed bad attitude, being in the coaches doghouse, etc....
Hodgson still had 19goals to Getzlaf's 11
Hodgson is going to be REALLY good
Getzlaf will continue to be overrated...
I'll take Hodgson!!! |

I like Hodgson, don't get me wrong. But, just as you said, 3rd line minutes...playing behind Sedin and Kesler, and not facing top-end talent.
But, like I said, I like the kid. |

True,
But he also had stuff working against him too
Getting those goals while playing with average players & no pp time is impressive at a young age |

Agreed. I guess we will see what Darcy does (or doesn't do). |

He was a rookie ..... dont necessary look at Hodgsons points with the sabres and judge him. The stuff he did right off the bat made a huge difference.
You saw his high hockey IQ, was in good position, had tons of scoring chances. You could just see he was an actual center.
Hodgson one issues like i said was: His first step was a little slow. At the developmential camp the sabres had. His first stride had some jump it it and looked a lot quicker then during the end of NHL season.
i expect a big year from Hodgson |

Hogie to me is still a enigma till we see more of him. From what little Ive seen Ive not been impressed. Some one in an earlier thread mentioned attitude issues/rumors coming out of Vancover.I see that in the kids eyes when the camera shows him sitting on the bench.Im also in the camp of look who he played behind. Is he the next coming of Roy in his productive days ? I dont think so and not anywhere close to Briere but we ll see wont we ?The fact we went out and took a center with our number one draft pick and as well Darcys press conference after stateing he wasnt done in his center aquisitions makes one belive hes not totally sold on Hogie either. |

but didn't they draft him with center in mind? - mhp
im just saying for this year. we can worry about aquiring another wing next offseason. they can have him make a 2 year transition from wing to center
