Why bother? The Leafs lost ground to the Habs, Islanders, Hurricane's and Tampa. Buffalo and Winnipeg stayed status quo. Even if New Jersey and Ottawa decline slightly, the Leafs still can't match them, player for player. Which roster would you not trade, even up, in the east, if you were the Leafs?

Yeah nj is declining but to say drastically declining is a bit much...sure we lost parise and poni but we also have henrique and larsson with a full year of experience...and we have one of the deepest defenses in the league...also we have room to trade a d-man to flesh out the top 6 mid season...so yeah don't go thinking nj is gonna be a pushover this year....they never are...and as far as 2 years ago when we missed the playoffs we also became the hottest team in the NHL for a good 3 months WITHOUT parise...we were just in too deep of a hole because of maclean
