Except for the part where Doan won't be coming here.

Odds are certainly against it, considering the number of teams involved.

Doan here would be great, but just too many teams out there. I wonder what Stalberg could return in trade?

Package him with Hammer and get us something we can use instead of (frank)ing picks.

One things for certain...

...that despite having 6-8 talented teams pursuing Shane Doan, and throwing absurd amounts of cash at the 35yo forward. If and when he chooses a club other than the Blackhawks...

...Stan Bowman and the "dysfunctional" front office will be blamed.

Chicago and the Blackhawks should at the top of the lists when pursuing free agents or anything else hockey related - not merely one of "6-8 talented teams pursuing Shane Doan". Tired of hearing all of the reasons why they aren't - Rocky needs to do what's necessary to make sure they are.

No - even I wouldn't make that leap. The dysfunction was the overall strategy of pursuing the top tier FAs of the moment, when all along the effort should have been made to acquire the real missing pieces in the form of the right kinds of role players.

Many of those players were dealt while everyone followed the Parises, Suters, Nashs and Doans of the world like lemmings.

In the mean time, players like Ott, Zanon, Allen, Garrison, etc. all found new homes with other teams.

my dad has had season tickets for 28 years. there is nothing we enjoy more than going to the games. of course we love watching them win but a couple of first round exits won't make us run for the door and give up our seats. i am not happy with management after another pathetic offseason but regardless of what happens my ass will be in the seat next year because i love going to the games and i will love the Hawks no matter who's playing for them

Maybe this is where the old man had it right - maybe there are only about 20,000 or so people in Chicago who are fans - no matter what is on the ice.

Don't get me wrong - the prospect of having a team perennially in the playoffs is a huge upgrade from the 1996-2008 drought. But the team should do a better job of matching the expectations with the hype and marketing.

I agree. If your going to hype it at least make the attempt to build the best team possible which it seems we have fallen very short on. To this point the only change we made is not sign a few UFA's and get Brookbank, that won't win anybody a cup. I saw Stan at the prospect camp and I had to hold my tongue from yelling DO SOMETHING....DO ANYTHING! But i didnt want to be removed from the rink ...this is one thing i love about Kenny Williams, he may not always make the right move but he is always trying to find the right move

Almost seems to me that Stan is trying desperately to build the next crop of players at the expense of building on what he has now. You see that in the talk and hype about the prospects, and his apparent lack of willingness to deal ANY of them.

The Kenny analogy is a good one. Who thought they'd be contending this year, and yet he found a way to build on their success in what may have been a blow it up year.

That is the frustrating part because were not that far off from being true contenders. The really frustrating part is that us fans, bloggers, etc. can see it yet the management seems to be clueless.

Kenny takes huge gambles and a lot of times they are hit or miss. But when they hit like Rios or Youk he looks like a genius. He also owns up to his bad moves and tries to fix it when he loses. To me, you can't ask for more than a GM who is willing to make changes and take some risks in order to improve the club

Easier said than done in a salary cap league. I'm afraid you will be disappointed regularly if you expect the Blackhawks to be the number 1 destination of all top tier FA's. There are many well run, attractive destinations for quality players. This fact will not change.

Now that's a guy I've wanted fired for years now...ever since the abomination that was the 2007 White Sox.

Fair enough...I come from the other end of the spectrum and have always liked the guy...and I hope he does get it, and I THINK he will he did seem to tone it down. With that said we all know what he did but he looked like a different Carcillo up until that point and like you say only time will tell.
- southernhawk

I agree with this here. Carcillo can change his game. He's been a .5 PPG player a couple years in the NHL, but then he moved to Philly where he gooned it up because that's the role he was expected to play. Yes, he can be dumb with his decisions, but overall, I think he can benefit the top 6. If Doan come in (that's a BIG if), that story changes though.

And everyone knows it's the fans that know what REALLY needs to be done, not the professionals who have made it their careers.

That's not to say I'm happy with management...only that I really have no clue what's happening behind the scenes, and I refuse to make any presumptions.

It's a strange offseason with the CBA ect. The Hawks had a largely set roster with no RFA's and Oduya already signed.

If change were to occur I expected it via trade. I reserve my final judgement for when I see the results unfold.

I don't expect them to be number 1 - I expect them to be in the final few for each player that makes hockey sense - and certainly to NOT be on the no-fly list for second-tier players, as they apparently have been this year.

It's also a possibility that the Hawks have been trying to land the big fish (Suter, Parise, Weber) and when they don't get them, they are waiting for the next domino to fall (Doan in this case) before they start making smaller moves. This is all pure speculation, but a lot of teams have been quiet. Philly has been huge in trying to get players, and they've only re-signed 1 so far.

Let's not return to the great Daniel Winnik and turning his nose up at SB and company...

I don't buy it, and he's just a guy.
