JJ, does the fact that Saad was not at the convention (thats what I thought I heard) change your theory that they're hyping up the prospects as a viable alternative to signing some stud FA's?
And is there any possibility that Toews might be willing to "loan" his "C" to Doan for a few years? - busmaster
Agreed with Al: no and no.
I also think, just my opinion, that who the captain is will matter to Doan—which will favor the Hawks (JT), Pittsburgh (Sid when he plays), Philly (probably Giroux ,post Pronger), New York (Callahan).
Maybe the Hawks the most. |

I don't know if it was just heat of the battle or what not but Doan goes after Callahan any time we play the yotes like no one else does. Always seemed to hit Cally the hardest then get in his face. Not sure if there was any dislike there or just trying to throw a first year captain off his game. |

I think Carcillo changed his game alot from his Philly days...when they asked him to play 2nd line that's just what he did...made good passes went to the net EVERY time and I think he only had 2 fights and they were sticking up for teammates...maybe JJ can add to this but other than that ONE bad penalty he did fine |

Agreed. He made room. That spin-o-rama highlight pass of Kane's was one part luck and the other part Carcillo making some room. Guys like Kane need that room else the D collapses on him like dogs on raw meat. I think the extended contract will really open up Carcillo's eyes that the Hawks are trusting him and he needs to reciprocate with smart play like he did before that horrible penalty that cost him the season. |

Did you not watch car bomb last year....hw did fine up until his (frank)up he was a solid player and did change his game....but he did do that ONE stupid play - southernhawk
You mean the game where he tried to hurt someone, failed, and was out for the rest of the year due to his own injury?
I see that as a huge liability |

carcillo is not a defensive liability.... - southernhawk
Depends on which Carcillo shows up. The stupid penalty delusional thinks he's a top 6 player OR the role player who looked half way decent for a few games letting Kane and Hossa do their things and staying out of the way. |

Bickells game is not better than shaws..... - southernhawk
While not bringing the intensity he needs to with consistency... at least last year for sure... he is one of their better forwards defensively. |

You may be right, might also be Team Canada vs. US bad blood.
I could be off on this, but I get these sense that Canadian team leadership (especially Team Canada guys) matters to Doan. Doan's family is very deeply tied to Canadian Olympics, etc.

We actually traded away more $ than we took in with Nash.. Granted you have to look at it as Nash + the two roster players that replace the other 2 players which are about $2.5 million total between the 2 of them that we increased to our cap.. Not gonna lose sleep over that one.. And no way we, the hawks, or anyone else is stupid enough to give doan 7.5x4. No way. - mrhattrick27
I think the Rangers got the best of that deal.

I watched probably 80% of the games, and sure at the beginning of the year the line with him, Kane & Hossa was probably the best on the team.
However, i think it was a mistake to bring him back, especially for 3 years when he has yet to prove that he can play a several game stretch without being a complete ass-hat.
His re-signing has allowed the Hawks to not really pursue anyone that could be considered a power forward, it's a continuation of last off season's "improved toughness" nonsense.
Don't get me wrong, though I don't care for the guy, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he can contribute in meaningful ways. I will praise him if he "gets it", but i will also not back off if he takes stupid penalties, and gets league mandated vacation time.
For every Matt Cooke, there are probably 20 who can't figure it out. My money is on Carcillo being the second type.
Time will tell, I guess. |

Or maybe we can really spread out the scoring to 3 lines and make it really hard on opposing teams to defend. This was the key to the Cup team. Some on that team wouldn't be considered top 6 guys either, but Q mixed and matched them; but maybe Stalberg-Toews-Doan, Carcillo-Kane-Hossa, Sharp-Bolland-Shaw. A skill guy, a finisher, and a gritty forechecker on each line - tomcat24
Why would you give Sharp third line minutes? |

I dont see Doan here, he will get swayed by the high $$ contract somes other organIzation offers (See Rangers or Penguins), I dont see Stan giving him 7MM a year. If stan can pull this off, great , we could use some positive news this off-season. BUT...... I highly doubt he will or can do it |

Fair enough...I come from the other end of the spectrum and have always liked the guy...and I hope he does get it, and I THINK he will he did seem to tone it down. With that said we all know what he did but he looked like a different Carcillo up until that point and like you say only time will tell. |

Stan might print the contract off his computer, but as I understand it, that would be the extent of his involvement in recruiting/landing Doan.
