I like Frolik alot based on what I think is potential. But have we all forgotten he scored like 5 goals all year and a couple were into empty nets? And his shot wouldn't have broken a pane of glass last season, so he was no offensive threat at all. What was Q supposed to do, put him with Kane and Toews and hope he got going?

I'm loooking for a much better year from him because I think he can play.

- RickJ

I like his effort but he simply doesn't score like a top six forward should...Caught in between here and I liked him the first month of last season on the 3rd line but...He and Bickell went MIA after the first 15 games.

Frolik's #'s in Florida included a lot of ice time in general and a lot more PP time.

Based on our PPs poor performance why wouldn't Q give Frolik (and Stalberg) a look on the PP this year. It's not like the PP can get much worse. I'm not saying Frolik would save the PP, but he might help a little while increasing his production at the same time.

Frolik and Kruger are really keys this year* - maybe (maybe) solve 2C issue, maybe 3W - if they can get 30 goals between them....

*along with, oh, say, Stalberg, Crawford, Leddy, Shaw, Bickel....

That's exactly it, Al. He hasn't been put into a situation where he can succeed since hes's been here. He never projected as anything other than a top 6 forward and as soon as we got him Q put him in a checking role. I understand it bc its hard to get into a top 6 already boasting toews, kane, hossa and sharp (esp at his natural position of RW) but his talents have been wasted on our team. Like you said, he was given plenty of EV time and more importantly, PP time when he was in FLA and he did produce. He had a very good rookie year on a very offensively challenged team and followed it up with the same production the following year. (not falling into that dreaded sophmore slump)
You watch him last year, like one poster just said, and he is lost out there. His confidence has been completely shattered. He is looking to move the puck as soon as its on his stick and has absolutely no scoring touch anymore. I understand he didn't do anything to force Qs hand in moving up the depth chart, but he was placed in the wrong role as soon as we got him.
I would love to see him get a few chances alongside Kane (assuming he is our 2c) and see if he can string together a few good games. I think our best third line right now would be Bickell-Bolland-Shaw anyway so there could be a cpl spots open on those top 2. I think we will have somewhat of a revolving door for those othe two spots between carcillo/stalberg and probably saad but Id like to see frolik get a look.

A lotof these suggestions seem like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

The power play started to look pretty good last year when none other than Clown Shoes was on the second unit. What did he do? Parked in front of the net.

The other thing about him is he is a pretty good righty point shot. If it's me, I let him try to earn his $2.7 million per on the PP. Either up top or down low.

Problems the Hawks have right now:

— who takes the FO's when Toews isn't out there.
— who are your four best guys on the point
— net front presence (again, Montador was actually pretty good there. Bickell? Stalberg? Shaw?)

- John Jaeckel

No doubt. He actually looked much better there than on D. The Hawks don't have enough guys willing to go to the net. Can't argue w/ Kompon's comments on the merits of running a fairly simplistic power play.

Wouldnt bet much that those 2 could combine for 30 goals based on what I've seen to date, but who knows.

I think Al said Frolik was caught in between on this team. I agree. He hasn't produced enough offensively to be on the top 2 lines and he doesn't fit a 4th line role. Shaw and Stalberg both made Q happier than Frolik did last year so he sat a bunch.

Frolik is an excellent positional player in a checking role and likely would kill penalties very well if used there. I know, I know $2.3M is alot of money for those jobs. Better to trade him for a decent blueliner if that presented itself.

Al...do you expect that to change this season? I know Q said he realized he need to divide the ice time more evenly but do you think he will actually follow through?

I think there will be differences...But for how long and how well the changes will work??

If Q. has a roster which can be easily rotated he will most likely do so in a more pronounced way than in the past but...

More than anything else he must win and that goes from whenever the season begins.

Big big issue is the fact that type of information doesn't arrive until the end of July...

The timing of everything makes a delay to the start of the season so much more likely.

Unless the League trusts the Union enough to start the season without a new agreement.

League's original offer was apparently even lower than announced: I read somewhere (that Toronto Mail article?) that not only did they lower the players' percentage of hocke related revenues to 46%, but they changed the pieces that went into hockey related revenues - effectively (on a year-to-year comparison) lowering the players piece to 43% of currently defined hockey related revenues.

I know, it just seems neither side is in a real hurry to sit down and get it sorted out. They should have been meeting all the time, not just a couple hours here and there. This is complicated stuff. They only have a month and a half now

NHL won't start the season on time unless it is all their way because at that point the balance of power leans to the players. If things aren't going smoothly the players could strike in mid December which would be a killer to owners.

The owners original proposal was ridiculous...But it easier to keep 30 owners united than over 700 players...

The biggest issue to start is all of the financial aren't availble until well after the playoffs end....And the old agreement expires in mid Sept.

I could see the league starting the season on time without a new agreement - if Fehr and the players sign a legal agreement not to go on strike at any time during the season or playoffs. But that probably won't happen.

Ya, the owners have a ridiculous opening offer on the table. But if the revenue split is 57% currently and you want to settle at 50% why not start at 43%?

I really like the calm, unemotional tone of Fehr's voice, this isn't his first rodeo.

And would I ever like him to undress the little emporor Bettman.

Agree all the way around but Fehr will have a handful the longer it goes...
Players lose/lose in that situation and there are many have not's in the mix.

Everyone gets one vote...not like stock ownership so Bollig has the same power as Parise and in the end many players can not afford to lose a season of salary.

The owners started low, exactly the way they should and in the end they have time on their sides. Remember most franchises are net losers.
