I like to read. For those interested in the whole corn/grass fed/wild hog hunting etc. let me recommend a book for our club. It's called The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. Read it and you'll never look at a Big Mac or any other food the same way again. - Ogilthorpe2
Ogi,
I've been big on wild game, Paleo and optimal balance of Omega 3/Omega 6 for a while now. Another author I highly recommend on this topic is Robb Wolf, also an acquaintance of mine, arguably the leading biochemist in this area. |

IMO they're in a bit of a correction mode like JJ cited; no longer holding the mantra "we're the Chicago Blackhawks, and we know you want to play here".
Also, there may be some conservative approach regarding the CBA not as much as it affects the start of the season but longer-running impacts of the new CBA.
One thing I believe for sure is if the NHL and the NHLPA want to screw up the momentum they gained since the last lockout, any work stoppage will do just that.Regardless of who is "right" and who is "wrong", the perception will continue to be by many folks that Billionaire owners and Millionaire players just can't figure out some happy medium. - blackhawk24
I don't agree that there is a mutual interest in screwing up the momentum and growth of the league and the sport.
If anything, the owners have more issues and conflicts among themselves. This is a league with too many financially weak teams that was over expanded under Bettman's stewardship.
It would be a great league with about 6 less teams or 6 stronger markets. |

Didn't say there is a mutual interest in screwing up the momentum.
I said any stoppage will be viewed by most folks as Billionaire owners and Millionaire players not ironing out their differences.
As far as Bettman's stewardship, that can be argued seven ways of Sunday but what it really is big market vs small market owners; regardless of the so-called Commish.
Been there in MLB for decades, now at a your neighborhood NHL team too. |

I don´t know but got feeling that Doan is going to sign with Canucks if it´s not back to Yotes. His wife just says: "Shane, you´re not going to score at home if you don´t go to Vancouver", and all of sudden he´ll be a Canuck. Damn you ribs! |

Its funny how all these alarmists back in 2000 through 2005 - and this is all about money, hence power & control - were crying Mickey and Minnie were going to be flooded out of their Florida home by now have changed their tune. Even the name --- "global warming" was conveniently changed (pun intended) to "climate change". And this was just in the last several years. Just like libs always do, when the facts point against them, re-frame the argument, point fingers, call people names and to top it off, throw out some inflammatory words to boot.
- blackhawk24
Actually the name was changed because it was misleading. In science you follow the scientific process which means you have a theory and as you gather new data you update your theory. It was changed because global warming is a misleading title which always garners reactions like "obviously global warming isn't real this winter was really cold" What is predicted to happen is more of a climate destabilization leading to large temperature swings and freak weather phenomena.
No one should listen to Al Gore on this subject, he's an idiot who just wants attention. Nor should anyone listen to anyone who does not have a PhD in climate related sciences. We should listen to the people who have been studying this for decades (yes decades). If you take a politician's word for it or a company's word for it or some local newspaper writer's word for it, you probably won't get a fraction of the truth.
God we need some hockey around here. |

Whose intention? I can't really see why the Hawks would want to keep it quiet. Doan however might want it quiet because he doesn't want to offend PHX. If he was visiting here while still not wanting to offend PHX, that may say something about where he holds us as a possible destination. |

Quiet because the Hawks are going all in on Doan and if they don't get Doan they don't want to be seen going 0 for 3.
No Parise
No Suter
No Doan
Just my opinion |

I would think a 2 part. On Doan's side, maybe he doesnt want to advertise every city he visits. On the Hawks end, do they want to advertise this and possibly fail to land him. Strike 3 on the UFA scale. They openly pursued Parise and Suter, maybe they want to save face in front of the fans that they landed no big name UFAs (if it was openly advertised they were going for Doan). This would make it appear to the fan base that players don't want to come here and maybe loose the luster of the Hawks organization being a "choice" destination for free agents to the average bandwagon fan (you know, the ones that do not know who the ABC line was, or pulled their jersey out of mothballs when the Hawks won the cup). |

NYR got Nash. If they don't get Doan, hey they at least improved. For PHI, they may be trying to show their fans they swung for the fences. They almost got Weber... |
