You wouldn't know bc you have no idea who any of those players or prospects were we got in return. You've been a hockey fan since 2010 remember?

But you're right. JJ must be a moron bc he went on record saying Bowman did a great job that offseason. An NHL gm must be a moron bc he said those trades were great being Bowman had no leverage.

I don't know who you blindly follow being someone who can't come up with anything on your own..but there are two options for you that thought that one offseason bowman did a good job.

He did nothing since then basically, but we aren't talking about that are we?

you know there are other websites where you can go to get your daily dose of blackhawks fluff, right? This website is not one of them... Jaeckel IMHO (for Southie) is the most grounded writer/blogger here in Chicago.

Absolutely, and other hockey sites in general that are great. I write for one of them for prospect write ups. However, im not sure why youre calling me out here? I am simply reacting to someone attacking me. I would think he was out of line here.

I agree about JJ. I always liked most of what he had to say. Lately he has gone a bit too cynical and has flipped flopped way too much but in general he is usually pretty grounded.

I don't want to tote any other sites on here but it's a well known fantasy hockey site. I didn't mean anything by it when I stated it other than agreeing with moylander that there are other good sites out there everyone should check out.

I don't know why but people seem to have a problem when someone disagrees with their view on something. This should be a place where everyone can come to discuss, debate and share any views they have related to hockey and the hawks in general. I thought I did that with JJ and he jumped down my throat for being a bowman apologist and toeing the company line. I got attacked by another poster for saying I thought Bowman did one good thing during one specific offseason.

All views and opinions should be encouraged here.

With Jordan, he - and Krauss - lucked into having him already there - by '85 Jordan's greatness was well known.

Salaries not responsible for ticket prices - demand (and limited supply) and the dreaded marketing, especially to corporations, are the culprits. Do you thing that if the owners get their 22% rollback that they will reduce ticket prices? NBA had a $300MM transfer of revenues from players to owners after last year's lock-out: don't recall prices being reduced.

Blackhawk prices wil go down (in the form of discounts and freebies) when fans stop the sell-outs and waiting lists.

- StLBravesFan

No, I don't expect ticket prices to drop if owners are able to reduce the percentage of revenues that go to players, and I never made the implication. I also never stated that salaries are the only reason ticket prices have gone wayyyy up.

I'm referring to the historic escalation of salaries since the 1970's for all professional sports. If you are suggesting that salaries have had NO impact of the rising cost of tickets I beg to differ.

Without the benefit of Profit and Loss statements, Balance Sheets or expense reports I feel comfortable saying the price of a bleacher seat in 1972 compared with one from 2010 was influenced by team payroll. If total team payroll rises from 1M to 100 M this cost will be passed on to the consumer. And I think a 100x rise in salaries from 1972 to 2010 exceeds the inflation rate.

Supply and demand obviously controls the ultimate price, especially when the aftermarket is considered, and prices will drop if team quality and results turn bad.

I suppose I'm just a bitter old fan/fart that pines for the salad days of youth, but that doesn't change the facts as I see them. It simply costs more than I can afford to regularly attend WSox games, or Hawks games, and it's not just supply and demand.

It typically is... when the Hawks are playing and when there are rumors. I don't comment too much on here, but definitely follow it daily. This offseason of no moves and no rumors has caused a lot of bickering on here, just tearing down the Hawks front office. But it is frustrating as a fan to sit here and see a 2nd one and done and do nothing about it. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." That is exactly what they Hawks front office is doing. The prospects will help, we like our top 6... its insane.

Now on the other hand, Bowman's received a little worse rap this offseason than I think he deserves. I agree things need to change and he is not doing anything, but it's over the top in my opinion. Before the playoffs, there was discussion that this would be a very quiet offseason for us because of the upcoming CBA. I expected it to be quiet (although not this quiet). The Hawks never really had a shot at Parise/Suter, maybe Suter more, but never believed it would happen, just hoped. And then there was speculation/rumors that the Hawks were putting a huge push on them both. The Hawks got brought back into that bidding war and since we didnt sign them, he missed out. But looking at it from the outside, did he ever have a chance? I think the same thing is being created with this Doan situation. Do we really expect Doan to sign with the Hawks? Are we creating our own hype and going to get angry if we are let down?

Yes, I am angry the Hawks have done nothing. If the rumors are true, I absolutely blame Bowman for FA's not wanting to come here. But the non-rumors, the CBA, and the self-created hype of Parise/Suter only added to the disappointment.

So I'll go back to what we were originally talking about, with all of this adding into thousands of posts, people are sensitive and have caused cool heads to become hot. Like this

Very well said, bud.

I agree with you on a lot of what you just said. I think Bowman does deserve a lot of criticism. My biggest problem with him was his lack of movement at the deadline this past season. I kinda give him a pass in 10/11 bc of the blowup but this season the West was wide open and the Hawks had a better shot than most to come out of it. He did nothing to bring in the assets to make that a realistic shot. Although, I do think the whole one and done talk is a bit ridiculous. If crow makes a cpl more saves we could have beaten the yotes. It is also all about matchups in the playoffs. If this team as constructed goes in and faces the canucks and detroit in the playoffs we could easily find ourselves in the WCF.

I just think there has to be some sense of balance and prudence in the evaluation of Bowman. Not everything he has ever done has been the worst move a GM could make. On the same note, if he went ahead and signed Suter and Parise (like JJ reported he was close to doing) the bad things he has done shouldn't be forgotten either.

Some semblance of balance would be nice.

A GM shouldn't be judged by what he doesn't do wrong, he should be judged on what he does right and what he does to improve his team.

I don't think there are very many posters on this site who resent opposing points of views to theirs; that's my view of it anyway.

But there are 3 lightning rods on JJ's site - Stan Bowman Jr.; John McDonagh and that a-hole Patrick Kane. Get on the wrong side of general consensus on those guys and you may as well be Salman Rushdie promoting the Satanic Verses in Iran.

Maybe you guys have tossed this around....have not read the whole thread.

To Mr. Doan......cya and stay in Phx...don't blame him for trying to leverage himself. But that kind a dough for a guy who has won nothing @ age 36. That is sucker deal for the GM who bites on that.

What about Q ?

My views on the following are

Bowman...want him to do well, but don't like how he got the job.

McDonough....just know we NEVER WON a Cup in my life 'til the marketing/business guru came on board.

Kane...he'd be a franchise guy on most teams...but he's mercurial and the off ice crud doesn't help...but FFS..he's still a kid.

And Q...my favourite Hawks coach in my life.....but understand the views of those that don't agree.
