I'm actually expecting that to happen

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. My objection is mainly to the cost right now.

The Flyers right now have as much offensive firepower as any team in the League. We'll also see how other players such as Meszaros and Coburn do with the opportunities they are going to be given. Having a top 4 puck mover becoming available before Christmas isn't likely.

I was thinking about that. What would you trade for him? How about Bourdon or Gus plus a 2nd?

opposing players can't just run over jagr and zip off w/with the puck while he watches... i'm a known idiot but i definitely think briere is worse defensively. i also think that giroux lost a little of his 2way game last season playing with jagr on his line.
- Don'tForgetTocchet

no one is worse than danny defensively. i guess i just figure the drop off from jags to danny wouldn't be significant.

also, simmonds-briere-schenn was downright terrifying 5-on-5.

why would you have to give up a roster player and a second when the isles only gave up a second?

Honestly, I don't think I'd even put Read in the deal. The problem is we have 8 top-6 forwards and need a 9th. Is Ryan an upgrade over Read? In some ways yes, but in other ways no. Read is great on PK for example, and his salary really helps the cap.

I think people are thinking he's expendable more because of a fear that he was a one-hit wonder. That's a valid point. But considering his productive relative to his on ice situations, I think he still has upside.

a #1... Bourdon and Cousins should be enough

Their 2nd is likely to be very high 2nd, and ours will be last of the round.

The bigger problem is cap. They need his cap dollars, so they'd probably want someone like Mesz. If Vis was younger and signed for longer, it might be an ok swap but I wouldn't do it now.

Agree 100%. We don't need Ryan as much as I would like to have him. I am not even anxious to give up Read being what he provided to the team at such a small cap hit.

It's a good bet.

It was a good bet at the start of last season he wasn't going to pot 19 either. But thanks for your brilliant input.

I don't see why you wouldn't want Talbot in the top 9. That's just baffling to me.

I like Rusty, but not on the 1st or 2nd line.

This is why I prefer Jake with Briere. Combo of playmaking and defense. I'd try:

Hartsy - G - Schenn
Simmonds - Briere - Vorachek
Wellwood - Coots - Read
Rusty - Talbot - Rinaldo

I'm ok with switching Rusty and Wellwood, which is what they'll likely do.

My preferred lineup is:

Hartsy - G - Doan
Schenn - Briere - Vorachek
Simmonds - Coots - Read
Rusty - Talbot - Rinaldo/Wellwood

anyone think maybe since the breakout pass won't be so easy to come by now, that our forwards won't be up at the redline while the puck is behind our net? slight exaggeration, and just looking to talk about something other than Bubby Ryne, Mick Splash and Shane Wylder.

Because I like him as 4th line center. But keep in mind, I would like a 4th line with Rusty - Talbot - Wellwood/Rinaldo to get 8 - 10 mins a game to keep first three lines fresher. That 4th line is a 3rd line on many teams. (and 2nd line on Islanders lol).

I very much liked what I saw from Talbot. I don't see why he can't pot 15, and he's a perfect fit with Couts and Read on our 3rd line IMO.

And it continues to remain a good bet.

Despite your Tim P-like "analysis" of him perhaps becoming a benefactor of Couturier's improved offensive play.

All I said was that it was a possiblity. Talbot isn't afraid to drive the net or score in the dirty areas. He's a nice fit alongside Couturier and Read, especailly because of his defensive qualities, and has already showed good chemistry with the former.
