at this point neither Schenn or Couturier have prove themselves worthy of 5mil

not saying they can't...or they won't...but they haven't. let's not put the cart before the horse

I think we saw last year what we've got in Read.

I agree.

And I'll take that any day of the week.

Bobby Ryan is not at that level. He's the 4th best Forward on his own team.

- MJL

so you are NOW taking current team value into the equation?

he's better than any forward on the Flyers other than Claude Giroux...

never said the flyers are raping ANA with this. it's closer to an EVEN trade...not the "scoff at the notion" debacle many here are making it out to be
- eshake

I guess I see the logic differently in that a 25 year old Ryan who's production has reverted back to his rookie season is so much more valuable then a 26 year old Read who has posted 24 goals in his first season... Understanding that Read played on a better team, but he played on less skilled lines then the ones that Ryan has had the priviledge of playing on. I don't believe that Read is as good as Ryan, and maybe never will be... but you are not taking enough consideration in the Cap hits. Read is exactly the player you need now in the NHL. A player that is completely out playing his Cap Hit.

He may very well be better then any other forward than Giroux. Doesn't make him worth the trade proposal suggested. It's comical.

killer. so when you've wiped the tears and said your "whew...", you'd hand over 5 mil contracts for multiple years to Couturier and Schenn today?

how am i assigning "false values". i'm stating what value they have to the Philadelphia flyers.

on the Flyers, Matt Read is 3rd line forward. on the Flyers, Andres Mezaros is a 3rd pairing dman. the first round picks are what they are to the Flyers.

other teams see that too...it alters their trade value for sure

- eshake

By that rationale, Coots is a 3rd line center. Do you think that is what his actual value is?

i don't think it's as much he was UNDRAFTED as that he came out of NOWHERE...no scouting reports really from other pro teams (AHL) other than his BRIEF stint w/ the Phantoms.
- eshake

If I remember correctly coming out of college he was a highly coveted FA.

All my years? I'm 18.

I understand what you're saying. It happens. Phaneuf was supposed to be unbelievable, Faloon, Dipietro...the list goes on.

But- come on. Don't kid yourself. Schenner and Cooter are going to be unbelievable. You know it, I know it....

Couturier is the 3rd line center and top shutdown center CURRENTLY on the flyers. that's a much higher need to the team, so his value is higher to Holmgren (as proven by his name being on the DO NOT TOUCH list)

No.

But after their current contracts expire, I'll give them a blank check. Planning ahead

I ACTUALLY DON'T....

both of them project highly. both played their roles great (especially Couturier) last year...but that means very little in regards to projecting salary x years down the line

Why not?

Projecting salary and projecting skill go hand in hand. You pay better players more money don't you?

If Schenner and Cooter both "project highly", would they get paid highly in a few seasons?

No question I give up read, laught, and the 1st for Ryan...... adding mez is a female dog though. We lack defensive depth as it is. Maybe I go mez, read, laught and a pick, but not the 1st.
