As long as you aren't hurting someone else, do as you wish.

The money wasted by each side is sad. All of the money used to combat each other's unwavering positions could otherwise be used for valuable 'Christian-like' or left-wing endeavours...dunno, like feeding kids.

The difference is what they mean by 'As long as you aren't hurting someone else'

Dopps thinks that stating that gay marriage shouldnt be allowed (YES DOPPS, this isn't what they said word for word, but this is what they mean.. It is the interpretation of their statement) is not harming the gay community, and as such Dan Cathy has a right to say what he wants in that regard.

I am arguing that because they are currently a repressed people, the comments are in fact harming the gay community. That is until they are given equal rights. Once they are given equal rights, people should feel free to disapprove and such with their opinions. Until then, I beleive these comments shouldn't be made.

Right, because at that point, it becomes no worse than saying women shouldn’t be able to vote, blacks to ride on the front of the bus, etc. Totally acceptable.

Funny how you can read the words he said, in the interview, and also know what he meant............even thought what you say he meant,is not what he said.

In any case, on any issue, like which end of the egg to open when eating a soft boiled egg, each side can use their right of free speech to voice their POV.

But when one side starts insulting the other, vandalizing and threatening them if they don't change their POV............then that's a problem.

Sorry, have to leave now, go golfing.

Freedom of expression is essential to the backdrop that would create an environment where such rights could, and should, be conferred universally. The comments do not harm the community but keep the dialogue alive and this is essential.

Oh, I am sorry, out of the entire population of Gay people and supporters, a handful of idiots have resorted to vandalizing and threatening because they wont change their POV.

Seeing as this has been extended tot he entirety of the gay community and its supporters, I would now like to change the representation of Dan Cathy to encompass all religious people over the last 3000 years.

All the gay community did was vandalize, and the (now encompassed) mass of religious groups, have beaten, tortured, robbed, stoned, raped, cut, hung, etc.. the members of the gay community because they havent changed their POV.

Do you see the problem with your comparisons?

I am not saying that Dan cathy should not be allowed to express himself, I am simply saying that I do not believe that it is right for soomeone to take a swing at an opressed community. Luckily, like you said, the fact that he is doing so will most likely help their plight.

Not to be confused in any way shape or form with anti-chick fil a. I'm not anti-chick fil a at all.

When will you people understand?

They simply call themselves Christian even though the bend and twist the rules of christianity to suit their own needs, which int he end makes them their own religion, but instead categorize themselves under christianity, so they can group with the masses ......

Man do I hate religion..

- mfreedman

which is exactly what I said earlier, people like Carthy are using the guise of religion as a tool to spread their hate. It's pathetic, and what's even more pathetic is the people defending them.

it's not just the comments(that directly attack the gay community) but the fact that he funds organizations that directly act to impede the social reform that would give gay people an equal standing in society.

Some states make it illegal for gay people to have sex. Equality.

equal standing will come from understanding and not a legislated right. he speaks to his consituency and these people will never be converted.

the religious right is far from being either.

There's no reason they have to fight bigots and the legal system, though. Legislated rights will help get closer to equal standing.

Or, maybe we should propose a law in which religious people aren't allowed to have sex, either.

There are some religious laws that prohibit pre marital sex, and sex without the purpose of procreating.

True, there should be no fight. And absolutely, legislation assists in moving towards equal standing. The effects of allowing people to act naturally will result in greater acceptance...over time.

Well, (frank) seperation of church and state, eh?

Im talking about actual enforceable laws. Some states straight up ban gay sex. What right does any government have to control the types of sex consenting adults are having?

I look forward to the day when homosexuality is so well accepted that they dont need a farce of a pride parade to fight back with.

So would it be okay for me to fire up a straight parade, just so we have a parade?

probably not, which is BS.

But then again, chances are people would use it for hate... so it's not hard to see why.

Yeah, that’s the funny thing…. You can have Caribana, a Gay Pride parade, etc, etc, but imagine what would happen if someone started a White Pride parade…..

The thing is, ‘white’ covers too many cultures though. Something like Greek pride, or Nordic pride (celebrating Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian culture) would probably be accepted, and doesn’t carry nearly the same negative connotations.

We resort to extreme caution after periods of extreme action were taken... Give it another 10 years, and the cautiousness of racism fromt he white community will ease up.

Don't be to sure on that. There are a lot of people whose livelihood is dependant on perpetuating the "White guilt" sentiment in North America (less so in Canada).

It's like the Quebec separatists who keep banging the drums of separation with no intention of ever separating.

Funny thread of gayness.

Personally, instead of boycotting it, I think it would be hilarious if all gay people made Chick-Fil-A their hang out.

Could you imagine all chick-fil-a's nation wide all of a sudden being populated by homosexuals? Of course, straight people would stop going (people segregate themselves, this isn't prejudicial).. and CFA would become known as the "gay spot".

What would the company do? Shut down based on beliefs? Or would he take all that 'gay money'?
