Oh yeah because the Pheonix Coyotes are the posterchild for postseason success right!
So how much longer will your team be sucking the NHL's tit before they move?

Trust Sabres Fans. We went through bankruptcy and poopty owners all ready. Time is short. Doan has 5 years left to win a cup if he's lucky. The Sabres owner wants one NOW! I'm not even really interested in the guy, but if the Sabres are, expect the owner to give him what ever he wants in exchange for him to play his ass off. |

$7.5 per year!!!!??? That's just plain nonsense for a guy who has averaged just over 20 goals a year in his 15 year career with the yotes only twice breaking the 30 goal mark... 50+ pts per year average is decent with a couple of 70+ seasons, but fat freaking chance this guy is anywhere worth $6 million a year let alone $7.5... |

I think Quebec is a done deal....
Given the number of Doan blogs that have been pumped out, Coyote Trolls have been few and far between.... |

Kings are probably still in the race, although I don't think Doan would visit. He already knows all he needs about LA... However he is not worth 7+ a year, not even close. He's worth about half of that.
I don't care about his "leadership", Brown captained his team to the Cup and he hardly makes over 3 mil a year. Doan should be making 3-4 million realistically. Some idiot GM will throw 7 just because he's desperate.
And people wonder why there's probably going to be a lockout...
*Edit* if Doan is really just looking for a ring to go out on, then he should take less money to a team that is a cup contender. LA, Philly, Pittsburgh, Rangers etc. Buffalo needs more than Doan, Vancouver needs more than Doan, so I don't think he'll go there. If he just chases money, then he shouldn't be shocked if he never gets a cup. |

I'm told that Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Philly, Vancouver, Montreal, Nashville, and Los Angeles are on the short list of teams. TSN reported on Thursday night that it appears that the Detroit Red Wings are pulling out of the Doan sweepstakes due to the inflated contract demands. By inflated, we're talking $7.5 million per year for a minimum of four years.

Honestly, I hope he stays there. I want the Coyotes to stay put, they obviously can succeed if they can build a winner. I was there in the WCF, and it was packed. Not just because a lot of Kings fans made the trip either, there were genuine Coyotes fans who were very dedicated to their team. They were pretty classy as well, despite the minority who decided to throw trash on the ice. |

Logic and common sense have no place here.....
I would have thought you Wild fans would have taken the rest of the summer off given the big UFA signings. Congrats on that. Glad you are in the West.

i know we all would say yes but when people say its too much money...i just keep feeling like What if he is the piece ............. - aschwach
I think the bigger and more important question is... What if he's not? 7.5 a year for 4 years just to find out he's really just a 20 goal a year guy?! To big of a cap hit for too long for a guy his age and a guy with barely 20 goals and 50 points over the last 3 seasons, arguably which have been Phoenix's best seasons. I guess it only takes one dreamer to make it happen, but if you ask me he's reaching a bit on the money... 20 and 30 does not equate to anything over $4 million a season and that's being generous... the intangibles don't make up that much difference... Vrbata only makes $3 million and he's only ever so slightly below the 20 and 30 mark that Doan has posted over the last 3 and he's 4 years younger as well... |

Thanks, still interested to see who's going where though! Heatley? Only place I've seen any rumors of Heatley being moved is right here on HB. Other than that, nothing in the MN media even hinting at Heatley going anywhere...

There is no doubt that landing at the $ that are being reported is a huge overpayment for any team. But the thing is that there are very few other players we could add to this team to improve without having to trade away assets. For that reason I do want Doan even at 7.5 M.
I do agree that we are long shots. We were not a playoff team and have few star players. Doan would probably want to chose a team that he feels can really win now, and I just don't think the Sabres are in the same category as Pitt, Phi, etc.
Maybe Pegula can work his charm, maybe he will be impressed by the facilities and the city. And Doan has not closed the door on us like he has on some other teams that he felt weren't close to contending. So there is a chance.

Just reiterating what someone already said, but you'd think he'd lower his asking price considerably if he truly wanted to sign with a contender. If he just wants the big payday, then he should lower his expectations a bit and expand his list of teams.
I'll be shocked if he gets even close to 7.5 from any team as it is.... I could see maybe, and that's a big MAYBE a one year deal for like $6, but not 4 years. Maybe even like a 4 year front loaded deal for like $20 million. I guess we'll see though... |

OK Garth, lets break er down.
Now, I don't really read HB as religiously as the kids here, but when I do read the writers here, its sometimes with a smirk, or at least more a smirk than a nodding head. In particular on some of the trite observations by some of the guys here, who then get pissy and block guys.
You seem like you're cooler than that, so whatever right. But I am going to have to chalk this one up to the Eastern Bias, I guess.
Because its a joke to have 5 East teams handicapped and not to include the "home team", the Canucks on this one. Alberta can sorta lay a claim too, but I don't think either one has made an overture.
So, maybe some knowledge to open the eyes polluted by the Big Smoke.
Lets start with family. The guy is so serious about that, he has stayed in Phx to keep the family happy. Now, with that getting to the "fed up" point, home is Kamloops for the wife. I think there is the offseason Okanagan home too. So, thats one.
Gilman, the assistant GM, has known Doan since his first year. They are good friends, and according to reports from, well, him, the Canucks were one if not the first team to call on July 1.
We won't even get into the place on the team, where he would fit like a glove. He can see that as well as anyone in hockey.
But...all those East teams? This is a guy that played his whole career in the West. I don't know the mind of a pro hockey player, because I am far from one, but I would think its more comfy in the division where you know everyone, which he does.
So, NY and the Flyers, big money teams, sure, you can sell me on two places he visited. Not so much on Pitt, because they have a ton of big $$$ to pay out soon to Letang and Malkin...but we'll see.
Montreal though? That visit is a huge middle finger to the province of Quebec. Believe me, the last place he wants to play, in my estimation, is the province where he was accused of being a racist, a liar, and brought into legal and political arenas over some politicians' whim. Price could be his twin brother! LOL
Buffalo...yeah right.
Its cool Garth, I'm happy if my team smeagols him out from under all the folks out East, and Ek has ignored Vancouver in his made up trades about Doan lately, ( in addition to getting pissy about Luongo! ), so I don't blame ya!

Would Vancouver pay that much though? Especially with all the criticism surrounding Luongos contract? Just wondering what your thoughts are on what you think the contract possibilities or probabilities for Doan might be... |

gosh, i hope he doesnt go to the east, but i think he will... Unless he goes to the leafs of course... Having him go to New york would just verify that we have no chance against them, same as Philly. But Buffalo would probably hurt us more as it would give our rival in making the playoffs another good forward. |
