Ok, seriously, you should go onto that guy's twitter feed and reed the crap that he's spewing, and then the dialogue between all the different "insiders". Like one guy says something and then another one chimes in with "well my sources are telling me this..." and the first guy is all like "yeah, I was just about to say that..."

Yeah, that's right, I just quoted myself!

So

NHL Trade Rumors ‏@NHL_rumor_mill
However, #Habs have said that they will match ANYTHING thrown at Subban. So don't worry #Canadiens fans!

Do you think Montreal would match a 14 year $110 million dollar contract offer to PK?

I love Twitter, but I use if for more than Hockey rumours... These guys are like a pack, all chasing the Alfa, which I guess is Ek. They all follow each other, retweet each others rumours. No doubt that some of them actually do know people in the game, but the only time a GM lets stuff slip is when they think it helps them, or if their initials are SH.

Ballard to Dallas for a pick may be an olive branch, or maybe its a domino for a bigger deal to be announced tomorrow. This just in, my sources are telling me that Doan has decided on Vancouver, it will be announced on Friday #CONFIRMED.

Another great post Ian!

I would absolutely love to see Doan in a Canucks' jersey! As a player with at least 49 points (and a max of 78 pts) for 12 straight seasons, who wouldn't want his size and skill? I agree that Vancouver has a minimal chance of landing him, but I think he may want to stay in the Western Conference. His contract would be hard to swallow, considering the hometown discounts several Canucks' players have taken to stay on the team. The Sedins will be looking for looking for raises in 2014, and bigger ones if Doan is signed at approximately $6-million+. The Sedins are currently making $6.1-million each, and considering that since they signed these five year deals they have upped their point production, it is safe to say that the Sedins will be looking for identical, five year $7-million deals. That will take them to age 38, and perhaps they will sign again after that. Losing the Sedins as UFAs is not an option for Vancouver.

As for the potential UFAs the Canucks could go after, I agree that Kristian Huselius would make a nice fit on the 2nd line. His injuries have skunked his point production the past two seasons, so his contract would be quite reasonable to accept. His last contract was $4.275-million, but I'm sure he could be signed for approx. $1.5 to $1.8-million, for one year deal. I don't like the idea of signing Andrei Kostitsyn. His brother is the better offensive player. Kostitsyn's salary last year of $3.25-million is not going to happen this year. If he is paid more than $3-million, I'll be surprised. There is no room for him on the Canucks' roster. I think Carlo Colaiacovo presents an interesting option for Vancouver. I would offer him a one year $2-miilion deal or a two year $3.6-million ($1.8 per) deal. If the Canucks offer him this, Ballard needs to be moved (I think Ballard should have been gone long ago). A Colaiacovo-Tanev pairing would be interesting. Jason Arnott is a no go for the Canucks. If I remember correctly, he was invited to camp last year and was cut. He played an okay season with the Blues, but I don't think he would be a good fit on this team. As for Jamie Arniel, I have no idea who he is. If he's decent, give him a chance with the Wolves simply because Scott is his uncle. Now, Ryan O'Marra presents an awesome option for Vancouvers 3rd/4th lines. He's big and he has the grit Vancouver has been seeking for the past couple of seasons. I would have rather seen Vancouver sign O'Marra than Dale Weise. O'Marra brings the edge Vancouver needs and has shown some good offensive production in the AHL. His NHL stats are minimal, but know that he was a first round pick (15th) in 2005. Mike Duco has great upside, but I don't he fits the Canucks mold. As for Simon Danis-Pepin (another player I don't know), his size (6'7") and skill is intriguing. I agree with Ian's idea of a two-way deal and giving him a shot with the Wolves. He is still young and could be a depth D-man.

The one player I wanted Vancouver to re-sign was Steven Reinprecht. The Canucks received him in the Booth for Samuelsson/Sturm trade. He got paid $2-million to play in the AHL last year where he amassed 43 points for the Wolves. He is a veteran centreman who has shown consistent offense (approx. 40 points). I'm sure he could be signed for a million plus, and be great on the Canucks bottom six.

Edm improved, but they're still a few years from challenging for the NW. Cal, Col, and Min didn't improve enough either. Canucks are a lock for a top 3 finish in the WC.

You've done nothing but bash the Canucks since you've joined. Why don't you try some polite conversation, and you might get some in return.

- Fosco

I don't think they are close to a lock this year.

All the free NW points are disappearing.

I think you are underestimating how much the division improved. CGY/COL the least, but they also fixed problems in weak areas. They improved just as much as the canucks in the market, and in CGY's case could be more IF their gamble on Cervenka pays off and Baert has a good rookie year.

Plus with Kesler out for a big stint the canucks will have a lot of work to do at the beginning to fill that void. So it will be a tough start.

Van has a far better team then cgy even with Kesler out. I think for a while minny and Col will hang around and eventually van will pull away. Cgy and edm have about as much chance of making the playoffs as clb.

Min was a solid team until injuries happened and then the wheels fell off and they never recovered. Now they have added a former Selke finalist and a Top 2 Dman. They have improved. Muchly in my opinion.

Edm. Odds are that they get 80ish points. Another year of improvement but not in the playoffs yet.

Cal. Either they explode and compete for the Top of the division or they implode and give more examples os to why a total rebuild is needed.

Col. Good young team. on the rise. They'll win more than they lose. Maybe Div winner, but I doubt it.

So while I do not doubt that Van is the Div winner, I would hesitate to say it is a lock.

As you said numbear, the free NW points are disappearing.

Free NW points? I'm pretty sure the Canucks record is consistent against every division. I don't think we dominated the northwest last year.

Rumors of Canucks offering Doan 5 years 30.5 million. 5.1 cap hit. I'm fine with it. We have a three year window. We need the cup and Doan is exactly what we need. Even if the last two years he's a dead weight we could just stick him with the Sedins. He wouldn't need to skate much. Just get open and shoot and physical. If that's what it takes than I'm fine with it.

I thought I loosely counted a 17(+)-5 record...that is pretty dominant...but a drop from the year before if I remember right.

The teams in the division are getting better and catching up to the Nucks

I'm to lazy to pull up the stats but I remember someone putting them up and it was pretty consistent with most divisions. I think the year before was pretty dominant though. But that team was one of the best regular season teams ever. In the new era. First in goals for first in goals against. First in pp and first on pk.

The year before they were absolutely dominant. It was the perfect year to win the Cup...unfortunately...yeah, not gonna go about all that...

I thought NHL.com had the team vs Div stats...but if you find where those stats were posted I would love to see them.
