The cap hit is the most important thing to a logical fan and GM. For example, you said Malkin deserves more money than brad richards. Fine, won't argue.

Malkin has the 2nd highest cap hit in the league, B.Richards has the 29th highest. Brad Richards' cap hit makes it possible for the rangers to go get depth players.
