Vorecek and Simmons for Ryan
Reed and 1st for Bogo.
I think Boumeester is going to Nashville

- Bieksa#3

That first deal would be mind numbingly stupid for the Flyers.

Would you trade Read and 1st for Bogo?

I probably would. I've liked Bogosian for a long time.

so you're trading an entire line for 1 forward and 1 defensemen? how would the lines look now?

At worst they have a solid second liner locked up for four years.
- Jsaquella

Exactly. I'm glad he's back on board. He's been very consistent the last 3 seasons averaging close to 50 points. I have no doubts he can improve that to the 60-65 point range.

Good deal for Jake IMO. His 2nd half of the season and playoffs were very solid I thought. I expect a great year out of him.

I don't have a problem with the money Jake got. I am wondering if he got a NMC and if he didn't that's why the money was slightly bumped up.

A NMC couldn't kick in until very late, if at all, during the contract he signed due to the rules regarding them. He doesn't have one

Bill,
You obviously didn't watch a lot of Jet games this past year. Bogo was argueably our best all around defenseman. He had limited PP time and was very snake-bitten with goal posts/crossbars. I can remember at least 10 times he rung the iron this past year. If even half of those go in, his numbers look way better. People in the Peg' know his real value and he is the one untouchable in our ranks. I predict him to have a real breakout year offensively. Huddy has been gold with this kid. The previous defensive coach in Atlanta, (can't remember name), had a personality conflict with Bogo and it really translated to his play. Comparing his development curve and play to Schenn is simply wrong.

If the Flyers would have gotten Weber for the package of draft picks, it wouldn't have been possible for them to sign Voracek to this deal without making other moves correct?

Ok that's right. Reading the CBA isn't one of my life's passions. Thankfully some people here know it.

The Flyers were willing to give up 4 1st rounders to get Weber. I wonder if they are willing to give those up to acquire a defenseman and Ryan combined?

I presume you don't want Ryan then. Its either something like this or Coutourier/Schenn. I would say the 1st is a better deal.

so maybe...

I had a point when last yr at this time I was interested in pursuing a young dman w/ the kind of upside like bogo. pronger had come off of 3 surgeries, kimmo was coming off the usual late season fade and both carle and coby were going to be FAs.

we might have held on to the JVR asset to aim a little higher for a return...or having JVR we would feel more comfortable moving a guy like B schenn if need be to get the dman.

we might be a little hesitant to anoint plyrs outside of giroux as sacred cows that can't be moved, lest collective apoplexy ensues. if the flyers had potential top 4 dmen w/ the skill set that would complement what we have, it would be a different story, but they don't and it's been decades since they shown the propensity to successfully draft them.

maybe...

That could be the case or they just keep what they have instead of overpaying.

I'd guess they'd be willing to part with some of them. But would Anaheim take them?

What if the Flyers offered Read and 2 1st for Ryan? I'm not sure what exactly Anaheim is looking for in a deal besides a center thats been rumored.

Then offer MAB, prospect, and 2 1st for Bogo.

I think Holmgren sold low on JVR, that said I'm willing to give Luke Schenn a chance. If both players reach their potential it will be a good trade for both teams.

Depends on how valuable you feel he is.

To me the group we have now is a very solid group.

Hartnell-Grioux-Voracek
Simmonds-Briere-Schenn
Read-Couturier-Wellwood
Rusty-Talbot-Rinaldo/Sestito

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann

I'd be OK with Ryan, but I'm not willing to trade that much. Voracek and Simmonds is way too much for a 30-35 goal scorer, and if the Flyers are unwilling to trade Couturier and Schenn for Shea Weber, there's no reason to trade them for Ryan.

Ryan's a good player, no question. But he's not a superstar and there are questions about him. He's scoring 30+ a year playing with Getzlaff and Perry, for the most part. Is that going to massively jump with Giroux? Doubt it.
