It's about what I expected. - MJL
It almost exactly what I wanted (4@4). I think this is a really good deal.. Might be a bit high now, but I honestly think ppl will be very happy with it this time next year. |

Wow, more than I thought he would get. Was thinking in the 3.75 range. - PLindbergh31
For the 4-year deal I figured 4, and I'm not sorry he's tied up longer term. |

now we only have like 3 mil in cap space. - flyersfan51
The contract Voracek reportedly signed is very close to the number I expected. I figured he'd be close to $4mm. |

The only one I am disappointed in missing is Weber. The bids for Suter and Parise were legitimate, but I never expected either to come to Philly in the first place. The same would go for Shane Doan. He'd be a great fit, but there's so much going on there that I can't really get too pumped at the possibility of him signing here, because like Parise and Suter it's a long shot at best.
I mean, we hear about the Flyers diminished capacity to attract free agents, but nobody says anything about Detroit or Pittsburgh. The Pens traded their best defensive center after he refused a 10 year, $60mm deal. He then signed an identical deal three days later with his new team.
Detroit was heavily in on Suter and others and lost out. Even just looking at the Atlantic, Pittsburgh and NJ have lost some serious firepower and are not as good as they were last year-which is what I keep hearing from the local media about the Flyers.
Rather than be disappointed I look at the stuff you mention, a good young team, talented kids that were held onto and can grow, plus cap flexibility to add to the mix as the season progresses. - Jsaquella
Agreed. Seems like Parise and Suter orchestrated the entire situation. I didn't expect to get either of them, but lots of times the highest bidder wins.
As currently constructed I believe this is a 90-94 point team, with the ability to improve on that depending on health.

Big raise, but he'd still be RFA at the end of the deal if true, correct? |

I can only imagine how much more he would get next year, after getting first line minutes and palying with G this year. |

The Weber disappointment is 150% legit.
We are a player or two away, and that was the big addition we needed. There is a window with these kids - they will all get raises some day so it is tough to keep this nucleus together. You see it with Chicago, Pitt, etc.
To have added a legit elite player would have been perfect. Being a GM is very difficult these days in hockey - you have to know when to rebuild, when to groom your youth, when to strike, and when to tinker. Homer is in the mode of "its time to stike", and I agree with that.

Fans may be disappointed in the result, but there is nothing on the planet Homer could have done differently other than trading for Nash. Nash not a good fit here BTW IMO.
It was reported he offered the most cash to Suter and Parise, and actually got the biggest prize in years to sign an offer sheet.
If anything, one could criticize him for being overly aggresive. But even raising his grade this offseason is that he is unwilling to give up Schenn and Coots. - Daman
I like that he's holding on to the young guys. My only concern is d next year cause Timonen is probably going to retire and they creates a huge hole on D |

I dont think so.. this is his third contract, and IIRC, that has an impact on things as well. |

I like Jake. Young kid who will get better. He's only 22. Jake is underrated defensively as well. Playing with Giroux I would expect to see a spike in his production. 60 points would be solid. |

Yeah, if he has a breakout year, running with Giroux, that hit would jump after a one year deal. |

That was probably the thinking. If he was signed to a one year deal at around 3.75-4, and went nuts with a 70 point season playing on the top line he might command more than 4.25 |

The defense could be a concern but they still have the summer and up to the deadline to upgrade the position. |

Number of contracts doesn't matter. It's currently 27 or 7 Accrued Seasons. So unless anything changes in the new CBA, he will be a UFA when the deal expires. |

At worst they have a solid second liner locked up for four years. |

Nope, he'll be a UFA unless the age/years get pushed back in new CBA.
He turns 23 before the season, and 4 more seasons will give him 8 NHL seasons. |

I can't remember a deal that didn't leak before the Flyers announcement. |
