Hemsky and Musil (add a pick if needed) to CAR for Ryan Murphy. CAR needs a top 6 RW (unless you believe Larose is that guy, I don't) and Faulk's development has covered the role of small offensive Dman for CAR. The move wouldn't immediately help EDM, but he could get top 4 minutes in OKC. 2013 and on would then give EDM Petry, J Schultz, and Murphy as the offensive D men with Smid, N Schultz, and Klefbom as your stay at home D...Peckham and Teubert would be the 7th man sandpaper and Marincin and Gernat are the lotto tickets. If Whitney has a massive bounce back year, he'd still be in the fold, but unfortunately I see his ankle issues being an issue long term (if anyone else has blown tendons in their ankle before, you'll understand).

I have (frank)ed my left foot up twice in the last 4 years. I also don't have access to quite the same treatment, MRI's, and therapists as Mr. Whitney so it's tough for us regular folk to compare to a Pro athlete. After how much time he has been off however, its either gonna be good to go this year or could be (frank)ed. Still a better injury to have than concussions.

Murphy also suffered a severe concussion back in November and hasn't played since. Not a deal I'd make.
- GuyLaDouche

Well then someone wore Murphy's jersey, finished the season strong and posted 22 pts in the OHL playoffs (1.38 ppg), looking completely dominant in the process. Whoever stole Murphy's jersey, EDM needs to draft in 2013.

His size and his speed were issues if I recall. Still though, can't deny his WJC performances, and he was a shining star on a horrible Regina team.

He got drafted before the wjc heroics... Just sayin.

Glad you're taking my advice.

Now how about a blog where we don't trade our only real top pairing dman for more (frank)ing picks.

Or, we could trade him for a player we need.

Fuk it. No need to shelter rooks even though we finally can. Throw em to the wolves front and center right off the bat.
Its worked so well thus far...
That and its common knowledge that rookies generally dominate the league right outta the gate.

you have to win to help the young players become stars. look at the young talent in long island. what goalie wants to go there again though?

I think it's a terrible idea for Edmonton to let their young players think it's ok to lose.

Peter Forsberg had a team of doctors who couldn't fix his injury and analogies have been made between his ankle problems and Whitney's by MSM (not the identical injury, but similar). Whitney's play was slowly improving by year end, so maybe he does bounce back.

These moves would make the Oilers roster in 2012/2013 look something like this:

L1: Paajarvi - Nuge - Eberle
L2: Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
L3: Smyth - Horcoff - Hartikainen
L4: Eager - Petrell - Pitlick

D1: Smid - Petry
D2: New Guy (from Hemsky+ deal) - Justin Schultz
D3: Nick Schultz - Klefbom
G1: Dubnyk
G2: Danis

thought i read somewhere, believe from mackenzie or dreger on twitter, that Klefbom had said he was for sure going back to sweden for another year.

why not offersheet subban or carlson....you guys are so stacked with young talent that it doesn't really matter if you lose the draft picks. mtl and wash would likely match, but still worth a try. if not, i think dan boyle would be a solid pickup for you, good PMD to "mentor" schultz

I like Carlson. I actually wouldn't mind seeing EDM throw one at WSH for Carlson, but the last blog stating how putting a target on EDM back with the kids going into RFA if offer sheets starts coming out of EDM.

I don't like the idea of another "bad" year.

These kids need to see that the team is improving now, not getting worse to improve in a couple years still.

Someone said Hall's face after a loss says it all. He HATES to lose. You can tell. You don't tank when your top players care that much. These kids are going to be great, but if we keep trying to not improve and get high draft picks....the current kids will enjoy their success somewhere else down the road.

I hope the Oilers improve more upon last year and end up at least 9th to 11th in the West. Better would be great, but I think around 10th is more realistic. Sure, we don't get a top 5 pick, but we don't need more. We need the kids to develop and go after some proven players. While the rebuild is coming along slowly, I don't think tanking another season is in the cards at all.

I can see this team fighting for a playoff spot up to at least the last 5 or so games. Much better than being eliminated with 15-20 games to go.

with all the young talent you guys will have going RFA at or close to the same time, i think you'll see some offer sheets REGARDLESS of what you guys do. I'm sure they'll all be locked up to extensions well in advance anyways.....at least the "important" ones (hall, eberle, RNH, and Yak)

I think the team would get extensions done before they turn RFA.

With that said, I would not offer sheet anyone. The future of the Oilers blueline in coming through the system...

Marcinin, Gernat, Fedun, Teubert, Klefbaum, I am sure I missed 1 or 2.

Add to Smid, JSchultz, Petry, Whitney (I believe he will come back healthy), NSchultz, Peckham, Potter...

In that group there are 6 of 7 Dmen that can stick with the team for long term...at most the Oil will need to see if they can get a Top Pair guy.

Not necessarily this year, but but before the beginning the 13-14 season.

Agreed.

P.S. I like your location.

I do see Edmonton doing better than most are predicting...provided key players stay healthy.

If our Top 6 can play most of the season minus the odd game and Whitney comes back healthy and plays like he did when he did before he got injured, might have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs.
