Pretty much, I have a becket graded opc rookie (6.5) ... I would have a hard time getting $500 for it... to the naked eye it looks to be in great shape. The average person would say its mint and the same as the 94K one ..if they had it.
I have had about a dozen Gretzky rookies over the years... you can find them all day long for 2-$400 ...

Exactly people that collect understand reality when it comes to Gretzky rookie cards.
People that just come across one and try to sell it are always hit with a large dose of reality when they bring it to a dealer like me.
You're right though. Everyone who owns one tells me theirs is MINT and want me to tell them what I'd pay without seeing it 
Then some will bring it in show it to me and I have to explain why their card is not mint and what the real value of it is (what I could sell it for ...and what I'd pay for it) |

If the card is on the back of the pack, there is a good chance its damaged from the wax, probably worth more in the pack of course as a novelty Gretz RC. But maybe not as valuable as you would think
