well clearly getzlaf isnt coming here. Bobby Ryan is available... Burke is definitely interested.
- Mapleleafs_91

Sorry I should have elaborated, Ryan and Carlyle don't get along allegedly.

Dubinsky>Bozak
Macarthur>Ansimov but I suppose it balances out.

But Ryan has a much higher value than Nash, because he is younger, cheaper, doesn't have a NTC.

- maverickJ

Bozak, Franson, Macarthur, 3rd Rounder 2013, Colborne for Ryan? or is that too much?

Thats up to the GM and the players of getzlaf and perry. If they want to leave the GM has no other choice but to do a rebuild. If they stay, the GM is going to use bobby ryan to fill in the gaps on their team.
- Mapleleafs_91

No poop its up to the GM. But it is possible that both those guys leave next summer if they can't get them signed by the beginning of the next season I would move them all.

But, in true Maple Leafs fashion, they're probably going to have to settle for something else because Columbus is bad as can be right now while the Oilers and the Islanders are in very tough divisions.
- Two_For_Truth

I look at the moves that Columbus has made and I see a team with a pretty decent defence, improved goaltending, some gritty forwards. With some of the power guys, heading east, it may be enough to get them higher in the standings. They posess 3 first rounders, next year. This team will improve, but improve enough to catch the Leafs? Not so sure.

Things to look for, if we're shooting for 30th.

Lupul reverting back to what he was, after a career year.

JVR having surgery to repair that hip/knee that bothered him last year.

Reimer/Scrivens, showing that they're borderline NHLers.

Carlyle finds out that most of the team can't play his defensive style.

Gardiner has sophmore jinx season.

Injury time for Phaneuf, or Kessel.

Kulimen scores under 10 goals after resigning.

All of the above are possible and if only half occur, this team is heading for dead last.

Well I don't think Colborne and a 3rd= a first so the package is actually less than the one for Nash in that way.

I don't think it will happen but if it does I imagine it would cost much more.

How many legit chances have they had?

Are people forgetting Bozak scored 47 points last year despite having two guys carry him all year long?

Somehow, a rebuilding team is never allowed to give their young players or prospects a chance to show they can be an improvement over 3rd liners like Bozak.

- Two_For_Truth

They should get their chances, but not on the first line right off the bat. Move Grabo up to the first, Bozak down to the 3rd, and let the prospects battle it out for the 2nd line C.

He's not coming here, so get used to it! Philly will outbid us, because they have to stay even with the Rangers. They have the assets and are willing to play roulette. Burke, on the other hand, is waiting to see where the CBA is heading. It's been his gameplan, all summer, so don't expect it to change.

What was Lupul before his career year? He's a guy who can be counted on for 25-30 goals... always been at least on pace for those kinds of numbers.

The Oilers will probably draft 1st again. Wouldn't be surprised to see Columbus improve a fair amount over last year with Nash gone. New players and new leadership could be a benefit there. The Islanders? Man, how can a team with that talent suck so bad year after year?

At this point, I hope we don't make any trades and roll with what we have. Unless we can bring in a legit 1st line center.

4th Line winger, let him take PK faceoffs, or step in when Steckel gets kicked out at even strength.

The Oilers are far more likely to improve than the Blue Jackets are. Realistically, the Blue Jackets were far worse than the Oilers this year and they just lost Rick Nash. Things are going downhill for the Blue Jackets and uphill for the Oilers. But the Oilers could still be close depending on injuries and how much tougher their division is going to be this year.
- Two_For_Truth

Dont really see Calgary being any better. Minny will be, but not sure how much. Vancouver should win the division again, but their time grows shorter. Colorado is a wildcard, but by all rights should be decent.

That could work. Don't mean to split hairs but in that case I would prefer Bozak at 2 cand a third line of the youngsters.

Based on the same logic that has the Leafs finishing bottom-5 again. Neither team has done too much to improve their situation, and are looking primarily at improvement from within(or healthier seasons from key players)

even in injured seasons, you can still expect 20-25 goals outta the guy. Before getting knocked out for a season, he had 10 goals in 23 games... career year or not, the guy is skilled.

Bozak is more suited to the shutdown role than the youngsters, which is why I have him on the 3rd.

Pretty much. In Edmonton's case, at least 65+ games from Hemmer and Whitney plus all the kids a year older and the additions of Yak and Schultz could have them be better. hell, they showed marked improvement in a load of areas last year and finished with a lot more points than the year before, but all that gets seen is the 29th overall finish, not without good reason. I think Kruger could be the right guy by a lot of things Ive read too.

I dont think either team finishes bottom 5.

Yeah bozak is pretty good defensively and shutdown guy. I really think he is best suited as a 3rd line centerman for us. He will still get minutes and chip in those cheeky goals he scores and will be good for us but hes no 1st line centerman despite everyone saying hes all we got. Like you stated either Grabo moves up or we let kadri, colborne, JVR fight it out for the job. Heck id even throw Mckegg in there to fight for it But i believe kegger needs a year in the AHL.
