Meszaros-Gervais
Without any additional moves for d-men, we just need to hope Mez can return to his form from 2 years ago, Schenn takes positive strides forward and Timonen gets himself healthy. |

The only offer I saw that was rumored to be made by Philly did not include either guy.. Now if you believe that was the offer made by Philly, then they missed a golden opportunity.. No? - fsanford
From what i read, Poile's starting point was both of those guys.
Missed an opportunity, maybe, but i'm on record of saying i'm happy they stood by their youth. It's the first time in a long time the Flyers are allowing their youth to grow. The last time this happened was the 80's IMO...great teams in that decade...

Kimmo is a warrior. If they can just manage to keep his minutes down during the first half of the year I think he will be fine. Problem is you can't guarantee no one else goes down with an injury again like last year. |

I don't think all three will go down again. Mezaros already came back from the surgery to play a game. If he was good enough to go in May what's he gonna be in september. I think Grossman is the one to worry about, really because Kimo will be fine if we don't grind him down all year. If it means finishing in 6th place then so be it but his minutes need to be reduced. - JoeRussomanno
yeah....Grossman does worry me a bit. I think Mezarros is THE biggest x factor. if he can play at this 2011 form, he can play the top line with Coburn and lessen the load on Kimmo
Schenn isn't a real puck mover or offensive force, but he CAN play tons of minutes. i still think they will be looking for a Kimmo Timmonen replacement at the deadline tho. don't be surprised if it is Jay Bouwmeester.
if they miss out on Doan, i could also see them going for Arnott...but NOT for a 4th line role.

Yea, good news is Holmgren has a great track record of acquiring d-men that make an impact via trade |

Do you think Nashville would have declined if the Flyers gave Weber, say, a $30 million signing bonus and up the AAV to around $8.2 million? - NickTheKid87
Let me quote you: "I love seeing the fans that don't know anything about business and/or hockey"
...and then you come up with your own howler. You are unaware (obviously) of the bonus limits PH had to deal with. He offered Weber pretty much the max. |

I would be SHOCKED. $6.8 million for a year and a half? NO THANKS. Maybe if his contract expired after 12-13 but I don't want him for all of 13-14. |

Anaheim wants Couturier.......at this point, anyone think Homer might do it just to do it since he's gone Oh fer this offseason. I wouldn't do Mesz Couturier for Ryan but I would do Mesz, Couturier, Wellwood, MAB and 2 firsts for Ryan, Fowler and Sbisa but I doubt Anaheim would. |

I'm sure both sides knew where each other stood in the process. I don't think more prodding would have helped. - bradleyc4
I agree with Bill, that I am not sure this was a wise decision for Nashville. I am also surprised there is not more fall out. I understand, I think correctly, that the Preds have received something like more than $60 million in PUBLIC money (local and state) over a span of years, I think 7 or so. Some of this was in the form of a contract to operate the arena, which they do at a loss. They are also a revenue sharing (NHL Welfare) team, and they have NEVER turned a profit. I know they will say that they had to keep Weber, but if they were not fiscally successful with Weber and Suter in the past (and did not go past the second round in the playoffs), why is it necessary to keep him.
With cities and states struggling, and an outcry over spending public money even for road maintenance, these days, how can this type of deal be justified. The public has not seen a return on its money yet, and the team just dug itself even deeper. I don't get it. |

trade is only an option if there are no sacred cows...otherwise we are looking at 2nd pairing types at best |

what top pairing Defensemen are out there for the taking via trade? I do not want J-Bo, him in philly would not be good for either city or player. |
