Yep. He does a lot of things well, but nothing stands out. He's a really solid defenseman. He should be more physical than he is. He should score more points than he does. But he doesn't. He's not a guy that finds that extra gear to step up his game an be elite or use the skills he has to make the overall package an elite one.

seems to be a part of his game that disappeared since his Florida days

the only thing that's a + about jBo is that he only has 2 yrs more on the deal and he'd have a carle-like impact...could buy us time.

not a good value all things considered

- isaiah520

If they could nab him for a couple of second rounders, sure. See what shakes out. Maybe Winnipeg gets off to a horrid start and Enstrom is available, or even Bogo.

I wouldn't want to wait to the TDL, but by US Thanksgiving, you'll have the infor you need on Gervais, MAB & Gus

the smoke has cleared, and im thinking luke schenn could be the next best dman...hes got the size and nasyiness to be like weber in 2-3 years putting him at the 25-26 year old "prime".
- mydoglicks

If your saying that Schenn has the potential to be like Weber. That's not likely.

I agree he is not a #1 guy, but looking at need, I think the Flyers still need to upgrade the defense. He certainly is in the top 3-4 if he came here, may even lead the team in minutes by a D-man

He'll likely never have Weber's offensive game or puck moving abilities.

I'd be ecstatic if he reaches Adam Foote like level of play

I think looking at a players past 5-6 years is a pretty valid picture of the player.

he could benefit playing with a guy like Schenn

Kimmo Coburn
Jbo Schenn
Mez Grossman

that's not bad. obviously Jbo is no Weber, but few are.

It's similar compensation that the Rangers traded for Nash since the Rangers got back a 3rd and another player.
- jstross

I'd be happy with that... get Ryan sign Jake.

There is no doubt that Bouwmeester could help this team. But it's about the cost. Both in acquiring him, and his Cap hit.

none of the offensive potential and a fraction of the puck moving ability...puck-as-grenade syndrome (PAGS)

prob mature into a 4-5 complement to an offensive partner once he gets over the jitters.

what's the rumor of possible package for Ryan, if any?
Ek just posted that it's not going to die, and that other bloggers are mentioning us as front runners for him.

Perhaps, a player is injured, is played with weaker players etc, can certainly change how he is viewed in the short term. I dont theink Weber got his 14 year deal based on this season alone, it is based on his overall history. Way to easy to fall in and out of love with a player when you view a short picture. That is all my opinion of course, and I am not a GM

I think his upside is higher then that. He could definitely develop into a top pairing compliment to a true #1.

Id say 2 is the top.. If he's skating improves he will be a beast.....he'll even hartnell got better...as for puck moving he's pretty decent he had a poop year last year but their still is potential there... Not as bad as everryones making him

Sorry, although honestly I feel the same way about the D. Would it have been nice to get Weber? Absolutely. Are we in some sort of desperate situation now because NSH matched? I don't think so.

Biggest concern I have with the current mix of D is injuries. With both Kimmo and Meszy coming off surgery, I'm a little worried. But not so much that I'd take on an albatross like JayBo's contract just to have a guy whose best trait is that he's "durable".

I think it's obvious how parts of Bouwmeester's game fell off the in the last 2-3 years, that it's not an injury or due to who he is playing with. Weber is a generational talent and arguably the best D man in the game. Not a great comparison.
