What's even more funny is Bouwmeester would have the highest cap hit out of our entire defensive core.

- stveshdy

True, but only for 2 more years. The exact year that all the RFAs come up for contracts. Makes his deal easier to swallow for me.

Wish he had taken that into consideration when you guys came down for tangentgate.

With the lack of high-end alternatives being available the next year or two and the fact that there's only two years left on his contract, it's not the worst thing that could happen. All depends on what it would cost in terms of trade, though.

It's being reported that his price has gone up now that the market has gone dry.

The Calgary Flames have new and improved options for trading Jay Bouwmeester if they wish to deal the veteran defenseman. With the Nashville Predators deciding Tuesday to keep Shea Weber by matching the offer sheet their captain signed with the Philadelphia Flyers — 14 years and US$110 million — the market for a minute-eating blueliner couldn’t be higher in the NHL. With Weber staying in Music City, U.S.A., Ryan Suter going to the Minnesota Wild via free agency and Matt Carle opting to sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning, there are a few teams in dire need of a top-pairing blueliner and even fewer candidates to be nabbed. Bouwmeester may have his critics who feel he hasn’t delivered after joining the Flames with a salary worth $6.68 million per season, but even the most ardent haters have to agree the lanky Edmonton product is a top-pairing player.

you have to have at least ONE real goal to 37 fake goals....right? i'd like to see that exchange rate
- eshake

Harty is not a goal scorer he is GRINDER. Grinder goal=FAKE. Ryab goal=REAL. Flyers lost the Cup because they didn't have enough REAL goals. Talb scored too many and so did Courturner

If the Flyers feel that next year they can't get Edler or Enstrom then its worth a look. It's more likely that those guys could be re-signed leaving nothing on the market.

Amazing in a sellers market that Columbus got an absolute dogpoop return on Nash. Regardless of him demanding a trade.... The guy is under contract, he can't demand a thing. What is he going to do quit, and not get paid?
They didn't get any of the Rags top 10 players in their Organization for Nash. Simply mind boggling.

it would be more like sending Mezaros the other way?. right now he projects at your 3rd pairing and dude is making 4 mil
- eshake

Is JBo A better option the Mezzy? I guess with the back surgery he might be. Plus he is Right Handed. But I'm not 100% sold on that.

Dude I can't control what Columbus does. They made the trade and have to live with it. It was reported that any team in the West couldn't get him for what they Rags gave up. Flyers need to figure out whats the next step in their plan.

Which would be problematic. Need a replacement for Timonen.

I have no doubt that after the Flyers lost out on Weber, they would have been players for Nash. Howson is a moron, why wouldn't he have waited to see how the Weber trade played out. Could have had the Flyers and Rangers bidding against each other.

Not sure. Maybe he figured the Flyers wouldn't deal him a center.

After reading an article it isn't even certain that the Flames are moving Bouwmeester (who has NTC) but instead trying to deal Anton Babchuk (2.5M salary).

Like Bill said, "I wouldn't trade a bag of pucks to pay Bouwmeester like a franchise defenseman."

Say no to Jay-Bo. Holmgren is going to do something. He's not going to let all this cap room burn a hole in his pocket.

New potential trade options will open up next year should Enstrom not even be available via FA. Stay the (frank) away from JayBo.

Mezaros at full health.... i don't think he's a better VALUE for his money, but the guy is in the top 6 of TOI the last 6 years.

he's a top pairing guy to move the puck. who knows, a change of scenery may translate into finding his shot again

It's Ryan or nothing IMO.

Price for Yandle is exorbitant, as it should be.

Moves likely won't happen until the middle of the season.

I'm in that corner also. I rather not have Jay-Bo. The Flyers have to get creative and maybe get a player who's ready to step in and be a successful defenseman. Homer has been able to get Coburn, Carle, Mez and Grossmann so anything is possible. I just don't think you can get a number one defenseman through a trade at this point. The next best option is try to have a balance of defenseman who can rotate and matchup when needed.

Agreed. I'm somewhat concerned about the scoring depth this year as well. The depth has taken a hit. A few injuries and this team has some real issues as currently constituted.

and FLA i guess too....the fact is he can log the minutes and hasn't missed a game in over 4 years

i get that he's overpaid, is that the only reason people are terrified of this guy?

They could solve that issue by signing a free agent who can chip in 15 goals. I suggested Huselius as a cheap option. He's been injured the past two seasons but when healthy has produced very solid numbers.

They also have Semin and Doan but they will cost much more.
