Clearly that much public money could be put to far better uses for the public.

It's a ruse.

Local vendors and people who are employed working at the arena would probably disagree with you.

if you can take the body off the puck you'll control your own end, getting out and counterattacking is a whole other issue.
- JoeRussomanno

Certainly physical play is part of it. If the puck isn't in your end and is heading in the other direction. That's a pretty effective way to controlling what happens in your end of the ice.

not how he worded it. the limited quote above makes it sound like he is going to make a trade where the whole convo doesn't necessarily say that

Q: I guess any other moves, be it on defense or forward would involve a trade. Are you of the mindset that any significant trade is in the picture for you guys right now?

"No, I don't necessarily agree with what you said. There are still players out there that require a trade. It's July 25th today, there's still plenty of time before we can plan and rule out anything right now. As I said earlier, we really like our team, we certainly don't want to make any drastic changes, but we are going to continue to look at ways to get better. The object is to have the best team going into training camp and that's what we're going to do. We'll see what happens."

Q: How important was it to protect guys like

- nastyflyergirl[Sean] Couturier and [Brayden] Schenn?

"We believe we have a good, young team that is only going to continue to get better. What we are trying to do is add to it without trying to take anything away. Anything we have done this summer has been just that. A caveat to that is we will look and see what we can do to make our team better, but our mind set is 'We like our team'. So, we are not looking to make big changes, we are looking to add without subtracting. We will see what we can do."

Oh boy did I have the brain fart of all brain farts last night...got a pass in the neutral zone to carry it in, puck hit me at a super weird angle that trapped it in my feet and I just couldn't do anything with it....froze and just stood there kicking at the puck.

I do believe the exact words to me when I got back to the bench were "WTF was THAT??!!!"

Sorry, I got to wordy, that is exactly what I meant. You won't find anybody better tha Schenn to clear the tront of the net or take a guy to the boards. But, he does not possess or pass the puck very well.
- spatso

Schenn is a better passer of the puck then your giving him credit for.

The puck is going to be in your own end in the course of a normal NHL game. When it does come into your zone, you need to get it away from the other team. Nothing else matters if you can't win possesion of the puck. I might not be a pretty passer able to thread it to a free skating forward for helluva rush the other way but an nhl player who can win possesion should be able to at least get it out of the zone. It just makes the forwards job harder. Granted the Flyers ability to make the stretch pass might be limited this year, but if they adapt like a pro team can and should they will remain competitive.

Its the worst feeling.. I had that happen to me in the playoffs last season, but a little different...

I was on the PK and read a pass... stole it cleanly and was heading in on a breakaway when the puck hit a rough patch of ice and jumped my stick and slowed down. It was in my feet and there was literally nothing I could do to get it back to my stick. I got to the bench and said a lot worse. SO FRUSTRATING

From all reports, neither side bother to make contact more than one or two times. I'd have liked to see the Flyers be more proactive in trying to bridge any gap, instead of expecting to see Nashville fold.

Though this was posted hours ago, I wanted to highlight it, and say I fully agree. I really think there was a hockey deal to be made here, and the outcome was a lose for all 3 parties involved. And why the Gratton deal did not happen seems to me to be a story worth an investigation and story somewhere.

Ouch, breakaway fumbles are the worst!!

And overall I played a great game, especially on the forecheck. But that one play/brain fart just ruined my entire night. Immediately went from having a great game to embarrassed and pissed off.

Granted yesterday's ice was beyond terrible, but that's no excuse, everyone was playing on the same ice.

Exactly. My favorite is him saying about the trades (carter and Richards).

"LOL all you want, those guys won a cup and we didnt"

I said about us having received a fantastic package of players and picks that ultimately turned into Simmonds, Schenn, Grossmann, Voracek, Couts and Cousins.

He says

" prospect card means nothing to me. Couturier is solid. Schenn is not."

One time I was playing I had nothing but open rink in front of me, the other team took a really bad timed line change but I was normally just a board battle type that when I had so much space I didn't know what to do with it and we took an icing.

What city do you live in? It was hot and humid on Monday (like mid 90's) and the rink was brutal. To boot we played on the Olympic size rink so we were dying.

I think the Flyers figured what they wanted to pay was explained, otherwise they'd put weber on layaway for a couple years for free.

the first time I saw her screen name I was like Oh here we go, then after about two sentences was like ... wow. Definitely one of the brighter posters, as for the on ice persona dont know maybe one day I'll make it out into the world.

My "One time I was playing I had nothing but open rink in front of me" ends this way...

One time I was playing I had nothing but open rink in front of me during the 2nde period when the puck squirted past their D and I was in alone. I made my move on the goalie, shot, and hit a rut. I tumbled toward the boards, helpless at full speed, and shattered my collarbone. It would have hurt less had the puck gone in.
