I think with all the excitement nobody has taken into consideration the loss of Carle. I like Luke Schenn, I believe the Leafs messed up his development and Holmgren won that trade. But Schenn cannot make up for the loss of Carle and Holmgren needs to add a Dman who can support a puck possession attack. You cannot beat a strong defensive team like the Rangers if your own D cannot control their own end. - spatso
you had me until the last sentence. Carle wasn't doing much to control our own end. Now if you wanted to tell me you need a puck mover to break out I'd buy that. |

Damn I hurt today! Iron Maiden was a great show.
Weber- figured they would match, oh well move on. How about a offer sheet to pk? 5 mill sounds about right, worst case the Habs over pay. Handle would be nice but I like the giving up draft pick route. - Manitobakid
They always put on a great show. |

Oh. Maybe not so harmonious as I thought. Looks like my post was removed, so maybe not appropriate for this forum.
My thoughts - Ryan next on the to do list, Semin no way, and Yandle unlikely.
I like the suggestions of Moore or other vets...could be interesting. |

Dustin Leed @D_LEED
Ohboy RT @RandyJMiller: Holmgren: "There's still players out there we could acquire via a trade. It's July 25. There's still plenty of time" - aosplayo
not how he worded it. the limited quote above makes it sound like he is going to make a trade where the whole convo doesn't necessarily say that
Q: I guess any other moves, be it on defense or forward would involve a trade. Are you of the mindset that any significant trade is in the picture for you guys right now?
"No, I don't necessarily agree with what you said. There are still players out there that require a trade. It's July 25th today, there's still plenty of time before we can plan and rule out anything right now. As I said earlier, we really like our team, we certainly don't want to make any drastic changes, but we are going to continue to look at ways to get better. The object is to have the best team going into training camp and that's what we're going to do. We'll see what happens."
Q: How important was it to protect guys like [Sean] Couturier and [Brayden] Schenn?
"We believe we have a good, young team that is only going to continue to get better. What we are trying to do is add to it without trying to take anything away. Anything we have done this summer has been just that. A caveat to that is we will look and see what we can do to make our team better, but our mind set is 'We like our team'. So, we are not looking to make big changes, we are looking to add without subtracting. We will see what we can do."

Public money isn't being given to the Predators so they turn a profit. It's being given to them so they stay in Nashville. And generate money for the local economy and generate jobs in the area. - MJL
Clearly that much public money could be put to far better uses for the public.
It's a ruse. |

He still doesnt even come close to touching puckinghockey.
That kid is a total flake. He swears he is in the know having great sources. Some of his gems:
"I have said it and I will continue to say it, Flyers have only gone down hill since they traded Gagne"
On the Nash trade:
"I told you guys Nash was going to the Rangers, all you haters can suck it."
"Id take Anisimov and Dubinsky over Nash any day"
"Hagelin, Kreider and Boyle are not deep enough players. Maybe Steppan, but he even tends to fade sometimes"
On Shane Doan:
"Shane Doan visiting Philly today. Does this mean the end of Danny Briere or Scott Hartnell?"
On prospect camp:
"I love how all these Flyers reporters are trying to jam these prospect articles down our throats. This years prospects are garbage, move on." - jak521

I don't see Anaheim giving up 3 young players in that deal. And definitely not two young defenseman. |

Sorry, I got to wordy, that is exactly what I meant. You won't find anybody better tha Schenn to clear the tront of the net or take a guy to the boards. But, he does not possess or pass the puck very well. |

Thanks, nfg. That's a more complete picture for sure. But then, he will always say "we like our team." (I'm wondering if that's tattooed somewhere.) |

Losing Carle hurts. But with it comes opportunity for other players to step up and take on more responsibilities. |

The reality is that some of the players being mentioned may not be moved before the season. This is ok. A team like Anaheim, that downright sucks, may look to rebuild during the season as the realization of their biting a biggy becomes clearer. This is the moment when we can trade draft picks for players. Maybe our prospects for players.
Same is true for other franchises such as Phoenix - that may think they have a shot now but in reality they may miss the playoffs.

yea not much argument here, I just hope and believe he will improve in those areas. Only time will tell. I do feel vulnerable in the puck moving department but I think Coburn, Mezaros, Timonen and Gervais can supply those talents collectively. However I don't think it will be that big of an issue where it will jeopardize the season. |

Exactly. My favorite is him saying about the trades (carter and Richards).
"LOL all you want, those guys won a cup and we didnt"
I said about us having received a fantastic package of players and picks that ultimately turned into Simmonds, Schenn, Grossmann, Voracek, Couts and Cousins.
He says
" prospect card means nothing to me. Couturier is solid. Schenn is not." |

if you can take the body off the puck you'll control your own end, getting out and counterattacking is a whole other issue. |
