Coburn-Grossman
Schenn-Timonen
Meszaros-Gervais

Without any additional moves for d-men, we just need to hope Mez can return to his form from 2 years ago, Schenn takes positive strides forward and Timonen gets himself healthy.

that's a lot of if's. We needed Weber. Just because I don't think there are many UFA defensmen coming up that are top pairing.

very disappointing day and a half so far.

Can't sit it tears, Flyers have to continue to find ways to improve this team. Nothing has gone their way this summer but that shouldn't stop them, keep moving forward.

Enstrom and Edler are the only ones IMO and I can't see Vancouver letting Edler walk. I think Bill is right, go after Enstrom at the deadline or a year from now.

I was really hoping to see him in a Flyers sweater, maybe Pronger will be ok?

Ok. Have your guy contact mine and we'll set it up.

Actually, it wasn't the mistake it was the arrogant reference to others knowing nothing (or making mistakes?!) -- you know, ironic.

There aren't. Besides Enstrom, who I'm not in love with, there is basically nothing besides Edler.

The RFA class, however, is ridiculous. Offer sheets, anyone??!!

The last thing anyone should be doing is thinking they have an idea of what the Financial picutre is for Nashville. There's simply not enough information available. And Financial experts have all kinds of methods for handling these kinds of issues. And the real value in a franchise isn't the yearly income. It's the value of the franchise where the real money is.
- MJL

You have been consistant from the beginning on this point and you were right. I think a lot of people got fooled into thinking that the money was a lot more than it really was. In fact, it is only $500k more than he is making now on the cap. The accelerated bonus scheme adds about $300k a year to the general operating cost in debt service charges.

It wasn't directed to anyone on the boards though. I was referring to a lot of people I see one Twitter that are Philly sports fans but don't necessarily know the game and/or the Flyers are there 2nd or 3rd team (usually behind the Phils and Eagles). This board is very savvy IMO.

Wow that is deep. Weber is an RFA next year too but of the Yannick variety.

Interesting. What is your source? I would have thought $27 millon out of pocket this year (and almost 70 million in 5 years) to one player would cause a much larger debt service alone this year. The size of this debt on the teams' books, when it is only worht 160 million or so is also an issue. That is a ton of debt for one person in the business.

From what we do know about the fiscal peformance of this team and the public money that it receives, and the fact that it is banking on increasing its revenue sharing (as stated publicly) this year, I think it is surprising that a team in that kind of fiscal condition would make this deal. But, that is why I do not own a professional sports team.

Frankly, this type of thing bothers me. If they have billionaire owners, great, super, in fact. But if that is the case, and they can do a deal like this, get off or reduce all of the public and NHL assistance.

I think Giroux needs a top flight winger.......and I know nobody wants Semin, so Ryan is the next best.

Thank you for the sourcing. We know exactly how much credence to give it.

He still doesnt even come close to touching puckinghockey.

That kid is a total flake. He swears he is in the know having great sources. Some of his gems:
"I have said it and I will continue to say it, Flyers have only gone down hill since they traded Gagne"

On the Nash trade:
"I told you guys Nash was going to the Rangers, all you haters can suck it."

"Id take Anisimov and Dubinsky over Nash any day"

"Hagelin, Kreider and Boyle are not deep enough players. Maybe Steppan, but he even tends to fade sometimes"

On Shane Doan:
"Shane Doan visiting Philly today. Does this mean the end of Danny Briere or Scott Hartnell?"

On prospect camp:
"I love how all these Flyers reporters are trying to jam these prospect articles down our throats. This years prospects are garbage, move on."

Flyers need to do a deal to improve their back end. They are not nearly as strong as what they were at this time last year.

I made it to one game (in Ottawa) against the Flyers. Spezza and Karlsson dominated Giroux, Karlsson owned the ice, I think he had four points. I love Giroux since his junior days with the Piques.

My point is the problem in that particular game was not Giroux. He plays a puck possession game as does Ottawa. But, he had nobody on his back end to support him. You cannot play up tempo puck possession without Dmen with the foot speed and smarts who can support the play and get back and protect your own end.

Holmgren is going to have to do a deal. Forget about Bobby Ryan for now. His best choice right now is Yendle, second is Boyle, third is J.Bo. Without the upgrade, I suspect the Flyers risk an organizational sophomore slump and are at risk of missing the playoffs.

- spatso

I honestly couldn't disagree more. Their defense is not the problem. It really isn't. Where I am worried is that they've lost a little a on offense and are placing a lot of pressure on the youngsters to perform. I don't think the team is good enough as constructed, but if they acquired a Bobby Ryan and he 30 goals or a Shane Doan for his leadership I'd feel much better about the team. Have ZERO interest in Yandle, don't want Mike Green 2.0

Anaheim wants Couturier.......at this point, anyone think Homer might do it just to do it since he's gone Oh fer this offseason. I wouldn't do Mesz Couturier for Ryan but I would do Mesz, Couturier, Wellwood, MAB and 2 firsts for Ryan, Fowler and Sbisa but I doubt Anaheim would.
