I would imagine. Handing the Kings the possibility of Mackinnon, Barkov or Jones would be Burkes death knell. - GuyLaDouche
Aside from being a massive overpayment, I have to wonder if Burke has learned his lesson about trading 1st's. Burke can't and won't include a 1st for Bernier because he knows that Bernier might not even be an upgrade to Reimer. Even if he is, it's certainly not enough to warrant a 1st.
Just look at what Lindback and Bishop were dealt for and that should provide a ball park figure of Bernier's value. |

I hope someone puts the flames out. The guy hasn't proven anything in the league and he's really small in the pipes.
I'm not saying he's not going to be good, I just don't think he's worth those potential assets in Toronto. Burke needs to quit pissing around with experiments like JVR at center and possibly Bernier in net. Get a sure thing, dummy.

You'd expect Bernier's price to be more just based on pedigree and name recognition. |

Frattin and a 2nd Rounder is not alot to give up for a goalie.... and calm yourself im just stating what i saw on twitter... so relax. Do you understand there ARE NO (frank)ING CENTERMAN AVAILABLE, what dont you UNDERSTAND. And JVR as an experiment makes perfect sense for a guy that never reached his full potential and CLEARLY stated that he never got the chance to play center in philly when he was originally a center before philly so stop with the BS that he is not capable of being a centerman. |

Fair enough.
I do think he'll be better than Reimer/Scrivens, but he's still quite a gamble, and I know there have been attitude issues in the past.

Lol, that's fair.
I just think Toronto needs something that's reached said potential.
Toronto's no place for young goalies these days. Look how quickly people turned on Reimer. He went from Optimus to Floptimus pretty (frank)in fast. |

If we have to gamble on a top young goalie prospect on a very young team vs an old veteran on a very young team, I'll take the first. |

So you'd rather a 34 year old Luongo or a 36 year old Backstrom with iinjury problems?
By the time the Leafs hit their stride, backstrom will be 40 and Luongo not far behind.
Bernier will just be hitting his prime |

Bernier is a better fit for TO than Luongo, if the plan is to finish the rebuild properly.
Luongo only made sense if Burke was just trying to save his ass, and shoot for playoff spot and likely an early out.
It's a worthwhile gamble on Bernier if the price isn't too steep. |
