Sure, you don't get Weber to knock Crosby around and protect your goalie from Malkin, but you would have been screwed. Now nobody gets him for a year, and by then you will have tried to sign four more defenders.

Preds are stuck with Weber for a year. That means their on the hook for the $27MM next year. How long till the Preds declare bankruptcy and the league takes over is the only question.

Exactly. They aren't stupid. They know how to manage their finances. They know all the risks and have gone over them a few times before making this decision. They have contingency plans and loopholes and all the financial knowledge to deal with whatever direction this contract takes them.

We will never know, but I would have loved to have heard the last conversation between Poile and Holmgren. Poile would have told him his minimum needs to get a deal done, Holmgren who have said no, then Poile would have dropped the hammer.

Too bad, it could have been such a great deal.

kudos to nashville on signing weber.....though good luck landing anyone else significant. still do not see them as contenders in upcoming years.
