I can all ready visualize Garth's next blog post....."Weber offer sheet matched!.....Doan MIGHT come to Buffalo!....DOAN!" |

Wow ..... talk about akward ... whats it like to be somewhere you wanted to leave last week and know youre there for 14 years . Guess hes got a poop load of cash to help him cope ! - juniorcarp
Smart move for the Preds..sure they will be out of pocket $$ but this allows them to potentially trade him after 1 year to more than 1 team. Having signed the offer sheet knowing they could match he made his bed.
Good for Nashville if true, not going to be bullied by big market cash |

I received the following:
Since purchasing the team in 2007, our ownership group has stated their intentions of building a franchise that will compete for the Stanley Cup year in and year out. As a season ticket holder and the lifeblood of our team, I am committed to sharing significant team and building news with those that help us to achieve our goals. So, it is with great excitement that I share with you a letter from our Chairman informing you of the boldest move in franchise history, that we have matched the offer sheet to Shea Weber.
Thank you for support and buying into our hockey and business plan. Your unwavering support has allowed us to put an amazing foundation in place that brings us closer to our goal; Develop Bridgestone Arena into the number one sports and entertainment facility in North America with a Stanley Cup-winning Nashville Predators team as its centerpiece.
We’ll be hosting a press conference tomorrow at 1:00 on the Bridgestone Arena concourse, I hope you can join us for lunch and to celebrate this significant milestone.
Again, thank you for your support! - Rustyblade

Preds are stuck with Weber for a year. That means their on the hook for the $27MM next year. How long till the Preds declare bankruptcy and the league takes over is the only question. |

Wow, did not expect that. Good for Nashville...well, assuming he's not all pissy now and plays like crap and they are just forced to trade him in a year and would have paid him like $27mil for just one year of service...also assuming there is no lockout this year as that will mess up the team financially all kinds. |

Apparently, the secret to winning these types of offers is using Twitter. It seems that everyday players, and even coaches are...... sorry, I can;t quote anymore. That is about the length of tiem it takes me to cut that off. |

True....but it still makes me giddy that the bigwig team finally didn't get the player they wanted. I'm tired of the Flyers and Rangers targeting and/or getting everyone that comes available. |
